well super stupids struck again.

Well I got the points n cap n rotor n condenser.
Took the old cap off and took the mammoth size rotor cap off.
Under it was a big piece I hadnt saw on any videos but irregardless I started in.
Took the two screws that holds the points in then lifted it up.
It has the condenser hooked to it like one piece but my other one is a piece by itself.
Then the wire that you undo has me lost??
The way its put on seems like it should take more to pop it off rather than just pulling it off. Then the other one looks like theres no place to put the wire??

the points leaf spring holds the wire in, just use a small screwdriver to push it away from the wire and pull the wire out of there, reverse procedure and the wire is in the new points

Looks like your set up is 55 to 74 gm v8 points and condenser assembly available at http://www.jcaparts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=107 and I'm sure several other places. The second picture shows how the separate points and condenser would be installed if you have the right threaded holes in your plate. That mechanism on the top is your mechanical advance. Hope this helps.

My opinion, for what its worth (about 15 cents on a good day), would be to toss the points and condenser and install a Pertronix electronic conversion kit. Stronger spark and less maintenance has been my experience with them.

Never been a big fan of points & switched to Petronix on my cars. Much easier!

Ah, yes, the Petronix is good and not that expensive. I'm still running points in a couple of my rigs and they really aren't that big of deal. What you got is called the uniset, much handier than the separate points and condenser. You don't need to take the screws all the way out and risk dropping one, just loosen a couple turns and drop in. I think you can still get the 2 piece if you want to run them. I used to just change the points, condensers don't wear out.

It's a lot cheaper to carry a spare set of points rather than a spare Petronics module.

Converted the Ranchero to Petronix too. Started having trouble getting new points for it... never had an issue since!

The biggest problem I've had with points is that they don't make good ones anymore. Every set I've installed in the last 15-20 years go shut in about 500 miles because the rubbing blocks are junk. After a reset they seem to be fine.
