When I was leaving work Monday, I decided to take the back way home. I turned down Newburg Rd and saw flashing lights about 1/4 mile up the street. I just assumed it was an accident and turned down another street before I got to it. Come to find out there was a dead woman found dumped in the ditch there.

Today when I came in to work, I was told that Tuesday there was a dead man found in the ditch about 1/4 mile from the plant on Will Carleton Rd which is the road that the north end of the plant borders. Both of these places are visible from the top of the batch house at the plant no problem.

I thought that I lived/worked in a nice small quiet area, but all of this has me a little concerned right now.

No, I really think it is getting worse. Moms killing their own kids, teens going into schools and killing innocent children, more teens killing 17 month old babies, etc, etc. Sure, we always had violence, but the people doing it today were not the usual villains years ago.

Life is very cheap any more. People will kill you for very little or no money.

I can't say this is entirely accurate, but worth reading. Also, I suspect that with modern medicine, many attempted murders result in the victim surviving as compared to years ago.

I recall seeing a reprint of a St. Paul newspaper from the late 1800's when the city was small and there weren't any suburbs. It was full of homicides.

There's not as much respect for life anymore.
Back when people got PO'd at at each other, they went toe to toe and the winner was just that and didn't stab you with a knife or shoot you with a gun.

I feel very fortunate where I live, almost everyone on my street has kids or plans on having kids, mostly younger couples, everyone looks out for each other...

I have not had that worried feeling here or had anything like that happen around here, thankfully... I toy with the CCW idea every now and again, but I usually pass on it...

from when I was growing up....I think the major changes came around during the times that they movie industry began to make more and more violent movies...and by violent, I mean gorey movies..blood and guts movies....desensitised kids.....then came the onslaught of video games and every more killing and blood and guts....
As a young guy I remember the first color Night of the living dead 2 movie being the so gorey even I walked out.....thinking wow, how can they show that....?? Today...it's nothing to see someone get blown apart on tv...or autopsy type scenes.....
the is no shock value to much.....remember the drivers ed videos.....childs play now....

I was thinking about this. In 1953, I estimate approximately 15% of the US population had seen combat (at least). WWI, WWII, Korean War, and Civil War Vets. Just a thought.

Odd thought: I got a serious respect for life the first time I saw something die.

yeah, it is a totally different situation to see a person die....nothing prepared me for that first time.....I was just a kid...19....and a long way from home...
....makes you realize your own mortality and gain a new respect for life in general....

God's been taken out of the schools. And half the country thinks we all came from monkeys. They're teaching more about Cesar Chavez than Fredrick Douglas, more Marx than Madison. The left has succeeded in dumbing down America.
