What size brake lines?

Fixin' to run the lines to my Model A drum brakes. Should I use 1/4 or 3/16 brake lines?

Makes no difference to fluid flow, so take your pick.

I heard some day dreamers saying 3/16" pipe reduces your braking pressure......dream on dreamers....

I used to use 3/16 on the fronts and 1/4 on the backs but, have since went to all 3/16 and likes been said, I haven't seen any difference either.

More important to make sure they're long enough.

Be carefull of your bends, no kinks allowed. Also keep them away from anything hot.

Thanks a heap for all the replies! 3/16ths it will be... I figure a 25 foot roll should be aplenty to get it done...

I have heard that some manufacturers used to use different sized lines so that you couldn't mess up and plumb them to the wrong end of the car. The MC outlets were sized thus.

With the tiny quantity and low speed you push fluid through the pipe, size is irrelevant.

I guess you already know the ends need a special flare to them, not just a regular copper tubing type flare ?

Here's a neat little tip I found on getting the bend right the first time! Pretty simple and straightforward. Helpful 'cause I'll be bending up the lines on my roadster soon.
