so I just picked up a 94 ford ranger regular cab short bed 2wd. it was a 4 cyl 5 spd truck. question is do I take it and drop in a turbo 5.3 chevy with a TH400 and hit the track or strip it to the frame and drop my extra 35 ford cab on it? of course the 35 will need a chop as the stock roof is dented in pretty bad. Or drop my other 35 cab (or what is left of it) on it and do a cheap raodster rat? oh the deliemas.....[;)

Maybe just drive it. A friend of mine has one and he gets 24 mpg with it. It's a gutless thing tho. You could find an old T-bird turbo coupe and put all the turbo stuff on it and the T-5.

Go racing, because that's one UGLY frame. Please keep the '35 cab as far as possible from it...

Hahaha! That made me laugh! And I think you may be right after looking at it in ernest....

Only problem with this idea is that the timing belt broke while driving on the highway. It will need at the very least the upper end of the engine rebuilt. To much time and money for a 4 cylinder in my opinion.

:D Go racing and sell parts to me for my dads 35.:D:D Serious, my dad put his 35 on an S-10 frame and it looked horrible. He ended up getting the correct frame with a tube axle and it looks great and drives very nice. Maybe get the Ranger running and have fun. You may win some cash to fund the 35 project.

The 2.3 isn't an interference head, should be able to just put another belt on, unless you ran it low on oil and squeaked the cam bearings.

Are you sure on that? Alldata and mitchell both state that the motor can not be rolled over with the belt off due to valve to piston interference. But I have never delt with a 2.3 before so maybe I am wrong?

I should have put "sell it" in the poll. I tossed it up on CL and have had 6 bites since sunday night on it! Oh well. If it sells then it will effectively cure my vehicle A.D.D. and force me back on track with my other 4 projects.....[S

I have replaced broken belts on many 2.3s but about half the time the new one broke fairly soon because the cam bearings were gone.

ahhh. I wonder if that wasn't the reason the truck had little to no power before the break. It was always a real dog. I just thought it was the way 2.3's were.
