I can't imagine how long that must have taken....and Doc, you wouldn't keep those "bonus" pounds for long!!!! :D
 
I've mentioned before that I watched my Dad and Grandpap build our house and barn in the 50's with handsaws and only hand tools. My Grandfather was about 85 at the time and he would cut a tree down in the morning by himself and by dinner it would be a stack of firewood. We have really gotten soft.

If you look at those pictures Michael posted you won't see one overweight guy in the bunch.

Hard work/

Living back then would have one good advantage. You would now be in the ground and not have to see what has happened to this country in the past 20 years.
 

Wonder if he has much trouble with termites/carpenter ants/dry rott? :D

Mom and pops heat their house with wood. All I can say is that is a lot of fire wood!!! I used to cut with dad to heat the house, and with the ammount of work that was involved doing that I want nothing to do with what those guys are doing!!!
