What, are we all farm kids? I grew up on a horse farm, and all of my uncles own dairy farms. All of the farms border eachother, and around our farms is stateland. Great place to grow up.

Im bringing home my grandpa's '63 Scout 80 home tommorrow. He bought it new. I gave it to a friend years ago, and have regreted it ever since. He stopped up to the shop earlier this week, and we spoke about it. Turns out the county got on him for having to much crap around his place. So he gave it to another friend of mine. I called him, now im getting it back.

The motor is seized, lil 4banger. I have a '65 out back of the shop with a 266 V8 in it. Does anybody know whats involved in swapping the two? I cant imagine a direct bolt in swap.

The knowledge on binders is thin, but I'm pretty sure their 4 cylinders were just one bank of their V8s, so theres a big chance the 8 will bolt up--keep us informed --I Need to Know that!!

Hillbilly--I laughed out loud when I read about your Scout plans. I did exactly that same swap to my '62, many years ago!
It seems as though it would be a bolt-in, but it isn't quite that easy. IH tipped the Half-a-V8 a bit more upright when they built it, so the trans and transfer case will be tipped over quite a bit if you just bolt it together.
Here comes the cool part! The fourbanger bellhousing has oval pads inside it so there's enough meat to redrill the trans bolt holes in the right place. Then drill the flywheel to fit the Scout clutch , and you're away.
On mine, I flipped the rears to get 6" or so more height, and then I mounted the power unit lower in the chassis to get better U-joint angles and lower CG. Also used the Travelall power steering box, it bolts right in. I dropped the steering arm about 4" with a heavy hunk of steel, kinda "Zee'd" it.
I built a Hurst-style front mount out of flat iron that bolted to the front of the engine, and used flathead Ford mount biscuits.
The 266 made a real machine out of my lil' ol' Boy Scout. Lots of 'em had Chevy's in them, but I wanted to keep my Binder all Binder, and it worked out great! Have fun with it , man.

I grew up on a farm myself. We raised cattle and had wheat crops. I learned to drive in an old 50's binder wheat truck! Hmm the good ol days.....
