This after noon a house across the street went up in flames, thank god no one was home but what a bummer this close to T-Day.

Then at dinner my 4 year old grand daughter asked if her parent are crazy. I could not bring myself to say ”no they are just stupid” so I just asked her “I don’t know, what do you think” she replied “yes” all I could say was “well ok then”

What a day.

Fire sucks, but good to hear nobody died.

Kids are blatantly honest and say the darndest things. (Do you guys know Art Linkletter?) When my son was a wee boy, I told him his statement was stupid. His reply, word for word, "I can't help it, I was born to stupid parents."

I didn't have an argument for that... the boy should be a lawyer. :D

My grand daughter is smart as a wip and I really have to watch what I say around her. A few months back her parent where talking to her and said "you are so smart" she piped back "papa told nana I better be smart' I have two parents to raise"

High-larious! I don't have grandchildren (yet ) but I'm looking forward to more wisdom from the mouths of babes.

My daughter at 8yrs... "Daddy, you're fatter than Santa... I'll leave the door open."

Fire is just horrible to go through, I imagine. All your belongings either burned up or ruined by the water. Hope they make out ok.

Sounds like your Grand Daughter is looking for someone to talk to. I don't know the issues involved, but when a kid asks a question like that something is really bothering them. It looks like she trusts you enough to be that person.

Well the people across the street are really bummed out but in the same return happy they were not home. No idea what started it but they are insured. It is scary seeing this type of thing happening let alone being the one it happened to.

DrC my two grand kids are the light of my life and I would not trade them for the world (would trade their parents for a 6 pack however) both are becoming big motor heads and love cool rides. My grand daughter if you ask if she wants a boyfriend when she grows up she will tell you this “My Papa said I can’t have a boy friend till I have a good education, have my own business, own a house, have a daily driver and 2 hotrods, But I’m a girl and I don’t need 2 hotrods but I do need the rest” still working on the hotrods.

Don you are one perceptive person, ugly custody battle along with all the other BS. The shame about all of it is my grand daughter is the smart one in the bunch.

Sorry for your neighbors loss

I understand where you are coming form on the family issues. We have the same stuff happening in my family. I am sure it will all work out for the best.

Crazy and stupid both involve bad decisions.. ie fail
crazy has no free agency involved in the fail although certain decisions may have led to this loss of sanity.
stupid is an innocently hatched decisive fail
ignorant is a willful decision to be stupid.

While there are naturally occurring incidences of stupidity and insanity...
I'd lean towards the analysis that willful ignorance arising from a poverty of morality and poverty of character leads to stupidity and insanity.
in other words... laziness?
Is this why the good life always seems to precede decline?

T-man, you sure have a way with words.

Mike, I was so happy that my own Sons were 28 when their Mom and I divorced because it would have been even harder on them if they were your Grand Daughter's age. But even then it was tough on them.

Your Grand Daughter needs a rock in her life right now and it looks like she has chosen you..........that is wonderful and scary at the same time. It is a big job to make her understand this is not of her making and she is in no way to blame. Kids will take the reasons for the trouble on their own shoulders because they are simply too young to think otherwise. We adults do dumb things sometimes when we are angry or caught up in a bad situation, not realizing the hurt we are transferring to our little ones.

Just spend as much time with her as you can and let her vent. She sounds like a bright little girl if she was smart enough to ask that question. Grandparents are VERY important to young kids and can be that bridge to normancy that sometimes Parents lose sight of when they are battling each other.

Good luck, Mike.

Don
