What's up guys and gals, My name is Shane and I've always had a thing for ratrod/hotrods, currently I have a 77 camaro (1965 283) I'm working on as well as a 2004 PT cruiser, I know, I know, but if anyone has any suggestions on the PT cruiser it would be greatly appreciated as I am going to try and ratrod/hotrod her out as far as looks, etc...

Welcome to the forum. PT Cruisers are tough. No disrespect, but no matter what you do to them they just kinda miss the mark IMO. Great little cars, my Ex has one of the few stickshift ones made she tells me, but tough to make them look like a hot rod.

The only one I ever saw that was somewhat cool was at Daytona a few years ago. It was black and had those early style wheels they sell for them, painted red with baby moon caps and trim rings, and wide whites. Dropped a little in the front too.

Not flaming your choice of cars, but everytime we go to a carshow and the PT cruiser club shows up most rodders kind of joke about them a little. I would either leave it stock and enjoy it for just what it is........dependable transportation, or sell it and buy something that can really be turned into a cool car.

Thanks all for the welcome :D

I do have the 77 camaro but the body and frame is in pretty bad shape. However, the engine an tranny are in very good condition. I have also been thinking of getting of just getting a 50's or 60's truck, or old car to put the engine and tranny in.

But, I figured I would check and see if could pull off the look with the PT.

Thanks again

Its your PT, if you got some ideas on how to modify it go for it. Don't let other peoples opinions rule what you do. You should have at least one dependable DD to drive and chase parts and other stuff while you work on a project car.

Thats a good idea to get an older car or truck and use the Camero for parts. The front sub, rear end engine and trans are perfect for swapping. Plus you'll have tons of other small parts you're going to need.

Welcome !

Welcome to RRR ! I would chop the top, fill in the back doors, smooth out the tail lights and add 39 ford lights, split the front bumper and rake the grill with a 37 ford grill, and do some fabbing on the front fenders to use 37 ford head lights!and on and on!
OK OK I have wanted a PT to do that to for a while but I'm building a 29 sedan instead!

the sub frame on the camaro is a great swap to a 50 truck, the sub frame has the mounts for the engine, and tranny. that swap has been going on for a long time. there are lots of resources to make that swap. i did it to a 56 chevy and i was stunned on just how easy it was. i would find a doner truck and swap out the parts from the camaro, you have every thing you need in the camaro, motor, tranny, rear end, seats, steering collum, radiator. good luck and ask lots of questions, these guys around here have a lot of experiance and are always willing to help,
