I just realized today that yesterday was the 24 year anniversary of my heart attack. I was only 42 when I had it and it was on June 6th. For years after I would buy a cake and take it to work to celebrate making it another year, but after so many years I just took it as another day.

Right after I had my heart attack I spoke with a guy who had one a couple of years before me and he said, "You won't believe this right now, but in time you will see that it wasn't such a bad thing." He was right, it gives you a whole new perspective on life if you survive an event where you could have died, it makes every day after that a GIFT.

So, I am having a cup cake today to celebrate (a day late) my anniversary ! :D

Congrats Don, if ya hadn't made it, I would not of had the pleasure to of made your acquaintance here on the RRR [cl :D

So..... maybe I SHOULD get that crotch rocket? [S

So you lost a little unwanted weight??!!

Problem is it always seems to make your wallet thinner right along with it....[S

Hearts

Congratulations Don.

My buddy Pete (aka rustywrench) died of a heart attack 4 years ago today (June 7), on his 51st birthday night.

I miss Pete, but am so glad to have met you here, Don, and hope to meet you in person someday.

Way to go, Don.[cl[cl[cl Are you careful with your diet, exercise and sleep?

I'm coming up on 20 years on my first coronary bypass. No heart attack though.

If we would have been born 50 years earlier it's doubtful we would have made it.

You're 100% right, we appreciate each day more than people that haven't faced serious medical problems.

Thanks again, guys. :) Bob, For the first bunch of years I really was careful about diet, excerise, and rest. My ex wife is a nurse so she had me on the Pritkin diet at first, then a sensible one after that. I also bought a treadmill and ran my butt off. Even after my divorce and later when I met my GF, we ate sensibly and rode bikes about 20 miles every Monday and walked a lot at night. She made sure I got lots of excercise.

But in recent years I have to admit I have slipped on all counts. I don't eat any of the good stuff I should be doing (chicken, fish) and generally grab whatever is convenient. Exercise is limited to what I get when working on a car, and my sleep pattern has changed to where I am up half the night and take naps during the day. I really do have to get back on a good program.

Glad to hear you are doing so well after your bipass, and you are right about us being lucky we are living in this time where they can do so much for us. My Dad had open heart surgery in 1956 or 57 at the Mayo Clinic in Cleveland and they really didn't know what they were doing.......it was only in its infancy and heart surgery was MUCH different back then. He was cut from the middle of his chest to the middle of his back, and he died less than a year later. Today they do most of their work through scopes and small incisions.

Don
