1930 model a roadster

finishing up a 1930 roadster for my uncle. he bought this form one of my customers that had lost interest in it. i did not build the car to this point, but will be finishing it. needs a little more metal work and chassis welding, then body, paint, and interior. hope to have it finished for him in march.

as it came in, mostly mocked up

after some shrinking, plannishing, and rolling. also got the head recess made for the passenger side and welded in

Hard for me to imagine somebody could lose interest..

made a little more progress on this one for the week. i will try to get a little more done on this one before i switch to another car next week. finished up the firewall, and got the seat and other stuff out to get ready for more metal work

finished off the bottom of the distributor recess in the firewall, with a flange to meets up to the original flange for the floor. it looks funny in the first pic, my guess is from the flash





had to make a support bracket for the brake pedal and master cylinder

going to make some panels to separate the trunk compartment from the passenger compartment, it will also aid in attaching the upholstery

finished out the monthly budget on this car this week. worked on the spreader bar, head light stands, and fuel tank mounts.

the head light stands needed the ball socket cut loose and tilted forward to work right with the 32 headlights







welded in section of 1 7/8 tube for the front spreader bar





then made the gas tank stands, and hold down straps

I like it!!! Is that a scratch made tub??

its been a while since i have been able to work on this car, but am slowly getting caught up on work at the shop. i have been busy getting all the metal work finished up so it can get epoxy primed and start the body work. the first major job was to get the panels made that go beside and behind the seat. these give the upholstery something to attach to, so needless to say no one will see these when the car is finished lol

more progress on this one

doing some welding and grinding on the street rod styled tail lights that were in there. they will be replaced by some 50 Pontiac lights



laid out and drilled the hole for the deck lid handle



laid out the placement for the flip top gas cap



welded the transition peice that attaches to the 1/4 panel and rear panel



removed the trunk flooring to prime all the flanges that will be welded



getting welded up



then pulled the body off to do some reworking on the frame



going to redo these body mounts that were on the car when it came to the shop.

That is awesome. Every time I look at your builds I wish I had half the skills you do!

Your work really is impressive and it sounds so easy. I know it is not because my welding looks like the brackets that came on the car.

here is a little more on this one before i hit my monthly hour quota, i will finish out the month tomorrow.

got all the welding and grinding done on the street rod tail light removal





then flipped the body over to do all the finish welding, grinding and prepping before we epoxy prime the bottom.





the new tail light set up drilled and one bolted in, sorry for the upside down pic, and the Dykem layout dye on the rear panel

got the body all epoxy primed up today, ready to start some body work in the near future

put the body back on the frame for some last minute changes and additions. then it is ready to start body work and paint

i have been working on this car for the past two weeks getting it ready to go off to the paint shop. the frame is all welded solid, ground and cleaned up. we were doing some checking on the rear end making sure the drums and backing plates matched the brake off set, and cutting off the brake line mounting clips. when i though " i really wonder what is under the filler on the housing ( the previous owner had welded all the brackets and smoothed everything out and primed it). well i am really glad i decided to grind out some of the filler to investigate. some of the worst welds i had seen in person were holding all the 4 link brackets on.

to get it all fixed right i gutted the housing, put the housing in a holding stand and installed my narrowing jig to hold it all straight. when i installed the narrowing jig bar there was some tension on the bar so that meant the housing was bent from all welding on the brackets. so i used a torch to heat shrink/ straighten the bend before i started the welding repairs. then i ground out all the old welds and re welded everything making sure to jump all around to keep warping down. then after the welding was finished i had to do some more heat shrinking on the tubes to take out some of the warping from me welding on the housing. now it is all good to go after about 8 hours of repair on the rear end housing.
