I have always had my driveshafts professionally shortened, because it seems like some kind of mystery. What's the 5 degrees for?

I always thought they needed to be balanced, although I can't quite figure out why one would be out of balance. Do you do anything about balancing? They're vibration free without balancing?

Love this build. The floor pan, that very few will ever see, is just a awesome as the grill and everything else.

The 'phasing' or 5 degree offset is supposed to run smoother though I've done many shafts with them in line and haven't had issues.
I find that longer shafts more frequently have weights on them, if so I put them back on. I one case, I got sloppy with assembly and had an issue with vibration so I ran it on jackstands , marked the obvious high spot while it was spinning with chalk and put on hose clamps with the screw on the opposite side of the shaft - 2 clamps worked great. Cave man logic at work..

Well, if taking things apart is progress, then I made lots of progress today !! Frame is now ready for finish welding.

Body parts all loaded up and ready to go for media blasting tomorrow. I've been struggling with this issue for a while now, whether or not to leave the 'patina' on it but since all windows except the doors will be glued in, those areas will need painting. Besides, I think this car deserves a real paint job.

Finally got something painted !! Splashed on the good ol' Tremclad (Rustoleum) on the frame and rear end (floor is a nice new color too ). I'm getting bored with black frames so I went with this chestnut color, it's a little darker than how it appears in the pics due to the flash.

Found a great guy to do the media blasting on the body and a pile of parts, all glass beaded, nice job, no warpage. Dropped it off in the morning and had it home by supper time!! Amazingly, the weather held out and didn't rain on it on the 1 hr. drive home....:D

The frame and rear end look great in that color. Do you thin the Rustoleum?
That's great service on the medial blasting. Yes, the car deserves paint. What an inspiration this build is.[cl

Thanks Bob! The label on the can looked a little darker but once I got set up to spray and opened the can, I was out of time to run back to the hardware store, so I just went with it... Most of the suspension pieces and other brackets will get a silver/gold color - need to play around mixing colors yet to get it right. [S

I did thin the Rustoleum with Acetone - I'm not very scientific when it comes to measuring but I'd say it was no more than 1 part Acetone to 6 parts Rustoleum.
It's weird stuff, not enough thinner and it just won't atomize properly, too much and it's running like crazy...

Another productive day, set up the redneck clothesline in the back yard and sprayed all the cleaned parts with epoxy primer then stored them away in the shed till I'm ready to finish them. Ran out of time and primer for the body but it needs a little more work before I prime it anyway - the media blasting exposed some daylight showing through in a few places  - a few zaps with the Mig will fix that [;). Just as well, I would never have seen them if it hadn't been glass beaded and I want it done right....

Lookin' good ZZ. [cl

That donor driveshaft is awfully short. Jet boat perhaps?

I assume you chose a color for the body. Care to share, or is that a surprise?

Lookn' great ZZ ! I think you can handle the pin holes
What is the sweet little truck tucked away in pic 3 ?

Good eye Dr. C, that donor shaft came from my old mid engine 55 Chevy (that's another story...)
I can't seem to picture this car in anything but black, that's how it began life, it just seems right to me.

That's my Hennway, haven't had time to get it out for a cruise yet this year.

After more than a week of working on a home renovation project (seems there is a direct correlation between the wife's need to renovate and my desire to work on the car... [S), I got all the pesky pinholes welded up an prepped it for paint. Squirted on a nice juicy coat of epoxy primer and sprayed the underside and inside with semi-gloss Rustoleum black.

You just need to get under her feet more. She'll be sending you to the garage then. I think, hopefully, pretty sure.
