More people give up on early Chevy projects than any other kind. All that wood! Don't you be one of them. That cab has nice lines and your project has a lot of potential. Take lots of pics.

this is only my second mechanical type project.
i just finished a 63 willys resto but other than that i have zero car experience.
here goes nuthin!

my buddy down the road has built about a dozen rods.
this is being done in his shop.
i am just doin what he tells me to.[S:D
this payday i buy the steel for the frame etc.

Except for the fact that it has no skeleton, it looks like a pretty good body to start with. Good luck with it. And what do ya know.........a Chevy with a Ford engine. There's something you don't see every day.

it's what we had laying around...

i think that's because it is illegal in the majority of the U.S.:D
(not really but i couldn't resist)

i like the look of the old chevy cab, but there is/was(?) alot of wooden inner structure--as the others have said, brace, brace, brace [;)

and don't give up on it--it will def. be a cool rat![cl

i started pulling wood out of it yesterday.
it is built like a horse carriage.
lotsa tacks and wood screws.
but yes we are going to make it a solid unit with all the steel it needs.

i only demand a few simple things from this ride.
gotta be able to drive it in the rain.
with my bad back it must be comfortable.
it has to be able to handle pot holes/speed bumps.

there is a neat story behind this project.
i been driving by this house that has a little mechanic on duty sign out front for years.
i was driving the willys and i stopped one day to see what was up.
and met this older fella that had a yard fulla these hotrods.
we ended up being friends.
one day i called him up and asked him if he wanted to go set off some tannerite targets.
i told him i thought his cars were the coolest and he offered to help me build one.
i came over the next day and asked.
are you serious about this build.
his response was.
i am if you are.
i handed him a henry big boy with marbles sight and said.
hows this for a down payment (i knew he was in love with it)
he sez.
lets go out back and find you a body.
turns out he has been building stock ,vintage and hotrods for 45 years.
this guy KNOWS cars.
i am getting off easy for a few reasons.
1 he wants to build another rod
2 we are buddies
3 he already has many of the important parts
4 he is making me do all of the grunt work
our goal is to be driving this by this summer.

I can say for certain that the both of you are going to be blessed by the new found friendship. You will learn alot from him and I'll bet he is thrilled to have a young guy ready and willing to learn from his years of expierience.[cl
