 Who'd A' Thunk it ? I had Rat Rods and didn't know it.
I guess you can say I was Rat Rodd'n when Rat Rod'n wasn't cool.
Got to thinking of some of the cobbled together drivers I've owned and
I'm a ratter from way back. My first build was a 66 Mustang 289 coupe with no floors and flex pipe for exhaust. Four on the floor with a broken reverse
lock out lever. 4th was straight back and rev was back and to the rt.
1 - 2 - 3..............crach grind, ooops. Showed off and missed 4th at 70mph.
Then there was the 69 F250 one ton that had been used to tow a roofers
tar pot before retireing in the woods with a replacement engine and no bolt
holes that lined up. $200 and we drug it out of the briars to find that the "boys" on the tar crew blew the stock motor and tried to put a 460 Lincoln from a junkyard in as a replacement. When I found it the motor was chained
between the frame rales and the yello truck had big black polka dots of tar all
over it. My buddy "Irv" and I set to. Irv had a welder. We fab-re-cated mounts.
Got one bolt hole per side and drilles single 3/4 inch hole per side. Drove a
wheel lug from a 52 Chev farm truck through each hole and welded around the under side. That'll hold her ! Elongated a few original holes and bolted
that 460 to a one ton floor shift 4 speed with a "granny gear first gear."
Used putty knives to chisel the tar off and when we reaised the hood you
could see through the pin holes in the rust. The tail gate was gone, so we
bolted a length of 2x12 actoss the bed and just threw stuff over and in.
Ended up with 2 1/2 inch home made header entensions and welded diesel
truck mufflers on the ends to carry the fumes back around the rear axle.
Pumped up the 8 ply X 16 inch orig tires and drove it 4 yrs hauling wood and
never put a tire on it. We fancied it up by painting the orig 8 lug rims white.
YOU WANT TO TALK "HAUL'N WOOD". MY FRIENDS WE COULD HAUL SOME WOOD IN THAT OL GIRL. PULL STUMPS TOO ! UCANCALLMEREY.

UCANCALLMEREY's 3rd project

I didn't see it as a Rat Rod. To me it was the only work truck I had in the
early 80's. I found a fellow with his own private junk yard out back while
soliciting places to cut fire wood. At the time " Me n' Irv" was usin' his 62
Chev grain truck and heaving fire wood four feet up into the body for his sons to stack. Anyway, we struck a $500 dollar deal with this fella on 3 wrecks.
A Caprice 4 door with a caved in rear and a good 350 V8 up front. A C20 cab
and chassis with no motor, circa 65. And a flat bed home made trailer with
an 8x12 diamond plate steele floor. Two weekends later I had a "new" --
long - long flat bed wood truck. Cut the C20 off at the cab and added 4 ft of
school bus frame. Instead of box welding, we drilled more of those lug bolt
size holes, overlapped the joints and hammered in the wheel lugs and welded
around them on the inside of the frame where it did not show. "neat counts"
With home bent u bolts and stacked pieces of 4x4 posts we leveled out a set
of bed mounts and bolted that 8X12 foot trailer to the frame. With a little
creative planning, 2 carrier bearings and 3 drive shafts we had a rust blue,
C20, with a 350 V8 bolted to 65 Chev 3/4 ton 4 spd, with "Duel rear wheels."
We went to Central Tractor & Farm supply for a tail light kit and even found
a set with the old style special Ford truck lenses. I hauled pulp wood with that
beast for 2 yrs, sold it to a wholesaler for $600 and he took it from De. to NJ
and made a slope tail car carrier out of it. I saw it several years later with fresh paint, a yellow gumball on top and the middle cut out of the bed for ramps. The man told me I could not possibly have built that truck. He knew
the man from Jersey who built it special for him for $3,500. I told him how the overlap in the frame was held by 6 farm truck lug bolts with welds on the inside and he slapped his thigh and shook my hand. Then I told him what I
had in it and what I sold it for and left him slack jawed. Also, cautioned him to never try to change the exhausts. The pipes were welded solid from the
manifold back, and up the rear of the cab. Nobody ever told me it wouldn't
work, so I did it. Mufflers.....what mufflers ?

Have to laugh at the endless BS Lounge idea. Ironic.......
In 1991 the VA decided to send me to college on rehab program for PTSD.
They based that on the diagnosis I was "mentally scared from Nam"
4 yr later I grad with a BA in BS (Behavioral Science) which qualified me
to councel other people with mental disabilities. "DUH ? " I wore out
4 shrinks before they tumbled to fact, I'd just read all the books on how to
be crazy without going insane. They retired me as unemployable.
I be crazy - "not stupid" I see dead people.

one last UCANCALLMEREY for the day

By now ya'll can begin to see why I gave up a good career in money management (bill collecting) and started building firewood trucks. A whole
bunch less stress and it paid just as good in the 80's when buying a wood stove was the in thing to do. "And, drink'n on the job was manditory !
G'night all ya'll (plural). It be 3:00 Saturday morning.

some people have a little to say about a lot....

some have a lot to say about nothing.....and some have a lot to say about a lot.....Joe falls into the Tman category......Tman, you've got some competition.....LOL... Joe....no offense meant.....it was actually a compliment.....

A husband takes the wife dancing.

There's a guy on the dance floor doing it all - break dancing, moon-walking, back flips, the works.

The wife turns to her husband and says: "See that guy? 25 years ago he proposed to me and I turned him down."

Husband says: "Looks like he's still celebrating!"

As she sat by him, he whispered, eyes full of tears, "You know what?

You have been with me all through the bad times.

When I got fired, you were there to support me.

When my business failed, you were there.

When I got shot, you were by my side.

When we lost the house, you stayed right here.

When my health started failing, you were still by my side...

You know what Martha?"

"What dear?" she gently asked, smiling as her heart began to fill with warmth.

"I'm beginning to think you're bad luck."

Sooo the wife and I were home during the day (she is on a night shift for 30 days) and I was on here having a look see. Is it bad that we got our, umm, "Business" done and I was back on here before the RRR server timed out? Just sayin......[cl
