sc5080 -- Please see questions on Bob w (gonna build a dragster) for you about your T Altered. Thanks old28 Tom W [S[S[S

We've got three meets scheduled. The Outa Sight Drags at the historic Union Grove, WI. Great Lakes Dragway, The free weekend at Brainerd, MN, and the Fall-Out drags at Rock Falls Dragstrip in Wisconsin.
In an effort to break in to the 10.50's, I purchased a more aggressive cam from Oregon Cams. We ran two 750 Holley carbs last year but will be switching the main bodies to 600cfm. They will still have vacuum secondaries. Hopefully a little leaner will make it a little meaner.

Old 28, Sorry for the very late response. I am sorry to hear about your health battles. I am on that doorstep too. Fighting it as long as I can. I doubt you will get answers from Larry about his altered on my thread. He's not here very often. Best wishes to Dixie and you as we all fight against the ravages of time.

Not on as often as I like but I was able to answer all of Tom’s questions in a message. Still haven’t sold the car.

Hi Larry. I shouldn't speak for others. Haven't heard from Tom for a while. I hope he's okay. Race cars don't bring the money they should.
There's a select few people that want to go as quick and fast as Sheets & Giggles so that cuts down the potential buyers.

Tom hasn't been on since November 16th. Hope he's alright.

I was digging through my stack of stuff and found this vintage computer. Hardware and software in a single inexpensive package. A must for any drag racer.

Had one of those years ago. Wish I knew what became of it. Probably somebody liked and thought they needed it more than I did at that time…

I think mine might have been put out by Comp Cams out of Memphis TN. Best I remember it was pretty accurate.
Bet it’s been 35-40 years since I saw mine last. At the time I was just getting started trucking, my serious engine building days were closing down. Didn’t even miss the thing for years, went looking, it and some more of my stuff had walked off. Always had a suspicion who got it, but never caught him with any of it.

Curiously, it was made by the Pickett Slide Rule Company. The same company that made the slide rule I used while flunking out of engineering school in the pre-calculator/computer days.

Speaking of Calculations, (if I got attaching a file right) you should be able to see a PDF file attached here showing a drawing I did for a properly sized scoop for those dual Holleys. It is not to scale, but the dimensions are on the drawing (I hope!!!)

Holleys abhor air coming from the horizontal, a funnel shaped scoop base gives the air a chance to build up pressure and send the air straight down.

This scoop should begin building "boost" around 40mph. the choke horns would best be removed, leaving the air filter hold down in the center of each carburetor intact.

BlueNorther, a new scoop will be a winter project. Thanks for the design.
Two weeks ago we ran for the first time this season. It was the free club drags at Brainerd the week following the national event. I posted pics from the adjacent car show and some of the race cars in the Gruber thread. We made 7 passes in two nice weather days. All in the 10.80-10.90 range. I put 600 cfm Holleys on it and it didn't run right. Replaced them with last year's 750 units before the race. It wouldn't idle down and the front carb ran rich. Should have been identical. Had some trouble with the throttle cable and no gas pedal stop.. But overall, a good time and okay dragster times.
In a couple weeks we run at the Fallout Drags in Rock Falls, WI. The last few days I've been swapping out the cam for a more aggressive one. Purchased an ultrasonic cleaner and have started carefully rebuilding the carbs making sure everything is identical between the two. Last year at this race we ran a 10.69. Hoping for a little improvement.
