Thanks guys for the info. Yes, I'm installling a '62 six in my '46 chevy and am not familiar with 6v systems and I will upgrade to 12v. Unfortunately the wiring is shot,too many years in the field (literally).

Are 6volt systems from '46 to '52 GM products positive or negative ground ? And if negative, what do I need to know to make this work when installing a newer ('62 6cyl) in an older car?

that is a good looking ride. I'm putting together a Fleetmaster. Pretty much original, putting in a '62 six and Fenton headers. It's a solid car except for drivers rocker. I believe it was a snow plow back when it lived in N Dakota
