2 Days and Counting!! Cruise for the Veterans

Animal, good luck with the cruise. Good times for a great cause. Question for ya. Is Wolf Creek Pass a major highway now? Four lanes and all that? We used to go through there in the mid-late 60s and it was two lanes, no shoulders, 1000 ft drops and made my Mama drink a bit of whiskey looking out...

    hotrod withdrawls

Billy, I know the feeling. I was into mud racing when I got married back in '88. The mud truck had to go along with all my spare treasures. Then my son showed up in '89 and some of my tools had to go. The hottest thing I had to drive was a Toyota Corona. Station wagon. When I got divorced in...

    "Don't Know" Build start

good idea. Thanks. After reading a bunch of the Texas inspection regulations, I discovered that sound level is not an inspection item. Neither is cracked up windshields. With the exhaust, all they want is for it to exit beyond the passenger compartment. I've got that OK. It used to be, about ten...

Vac to the power brake booster. I put too much cam in the 429 and haven't got enough manifold vacuum for the brakes. It's working now.

    "Don't Know" Build start

I had to take off work to go see the doc about my old wore out knees. While I was at it, I made another trip to the DMV and actually got the title straightened out and have a brand new set of plates to put on the project. There's only one problem here. I got regular tags for it cause I didn't...

Care to share your worst rat rod mistakes?

Porting heads without knowing where to take out and where to leave alone. I found out that the water jacket is is real easy to get into. Ruined a good DOVE head. After a little web research, I found a website that had detailed instructions and pictures. I took the ruined head and sliced it up...

Here's a guy that scams the scammers. Pretty funny what he does to them sometimes. http://www.419eater.com/

    "Don't Know" Build start

Old Iron, I found them at Jegs. The only problem is that they are 4" O.D., the same as my side pipes. Same with Thrush and others. There are a few places that make 3.830" O.D. inserts for Vettes and Cobras but, they are a little too proud of their stuff. Around $150 each side. So, just for the...

    "Don't Know" Build start

Got the vac pump mounted and hooked up. It's a little loud when the engines not running but, I don't need it then anyway. (unless I'm on a tow chain) This pump gets really hot after about ten minutes. I'm going to find out if that's normal or if it needs to have some sort of lube drip installed...

    Ran when parked

My Dad has an IH garden tractor, maybe a '68 model. I tried to do a compression check on the old 7 horse and got nothing. When it spins over, there's no hint of compression but, it fires up and runs great. He pulls a 4X8 trailer around with it. No smoke or misfires. It must be some kind of...

Well, I broke down and bought a vacuum pump. Ebay comes thru again. This thing fits a Chevy Cruze. I'll try to give it a try tomorrow.

    "Don't Know" Build start

Yeah, I've got the pump off a diesel and can get a pulley, no problem. But, about the only place to put it is way down under and there's really no clearance. The inside groove on the balancer, originally for the alternator, is only accessible from where the power steering pump is now. No room up...

    Insurance

Yep, that's what Hagerty said on mine. Permanent structure that's lockable. The lady said it was because we are in the hurricane zone, here on the Gulf coast. But it was only $186 a year for $7000 coverage. (that's about a dollar an hour labor that's in it)

    churchbells

There's a church a couple blocks away that lets it loose at noon on Sunday. They used to have a bell but, I guess that broke a long time ago. Now, they have big speakers and really don't know when enough is enough. Kind of like the bunny, just keeps going and going.......

    "Don't Know" Build start

I was looking at these things and if I can go ahead and mount them, about an inch above the tires, coming off the back of the brake shoe mounting plate, I can round the front of the fenders off to clear the headlights. On the back, moving the brace on the grill housing, and either cutting the...

    "Don't Know" Build start

As usual, I'm a little slow getting anything done. I finally got my drivers license problem resolved. Had to contact my state Representative's office to get any action. It seems all that was needed was someone to instruct the people at the d.l. office on how to check the dates on out of state...

    personal growth

Hey Billy, it's amazing the things that happen when you put the bottle down and get serious.(well, a little serious, anyway) I put it down a little over eighteen years ago and I don't miss it at all. My home and cars are paid for, I've acquired just about all the material goods I've a use for...

    Getting your money worth.

Looks familiar. I was working with our shops' "truck driver" years ago and he decided the 40 ft flatbed trailer needed new all four wheel brake pads. He was out there putting new pads on for about six hours before going on a pick up. When he came back, he said something was wrong with the...
