So I have been calling around the last couple days about insurance for the Dodge. So far what I am finding is $4-500 a year, flat policy, no storage period (winter).

Is that about the norm for this? Seems kind of ridiculous to me for something that is only going to be drive maybe a couple thousand miles a year. [S

What are all you guys doing to insure yours? [P

Another vote for Grundy here. $365 a year for $15,000 on the Linc, $8500 on the Vette. Unlimited mileage, too. They say on the website you have to have it in a locked garage, but the policy doesn't mention it. So, don't volunteer any information.............:D

Yep, that's what Hagerty said on mine. Permanent structure that's lockable. The lady said it was because we are in the hurricane zone, here on the Gulf coast. But it was only $186 a year for $7000 coverage. (that's about a dollar an hour labor that's in it)

i am going to look into that

As I mentioned, I have Grundy and have been happy, but I have never had a claim either. All I know is that I send them money and they send me an insurance card.

One thing that did concern me about them is that their office system is a little sloppy. When I originally went with them 5 years ago I sent them the pictures and completed application and my check. They said they had it and would process it that week. When I didn't hear back I called them and they couldn't find it suddenly, it was lost !

I sent a terse email telling them to return my check (if they found it, and that I was going to go to Haggerty. Right after that some VP called me and apologized and said they had "found my paperwork" and that if I would reconsider they would love to have me as a client........so I did.

Other things have cropped up too, like they changed from the Underwriting company they had been using and you could not get a human being on the phone to renew your policy. I finally had to call in on the new customer line and complain and they said they were flooded with calls because of now doing the underwriting in house.

Finally, they screwed up for a bunch of customers and failed to send out renewals to thousands of customers, and they attributed that to some glitch in the system. All of that makes me somewhat uneasy as they seem very sloppy on paperwork and billing. However, people who have had claims on other forums say they did right by them and paid promptly.

Just thought I would put that out there.

I have used mine twice for towing bills, as soon as I sent them my receipt, they sent the towing company a check. Never used it for anything else yet.

You're right Don, sometimes their office is a little screwy. Even paying online is a chore. They let my policy lapse one time, even though I had sent in a check........when we called and asked why they hadn't cashed the check, they said they didn't have it. A hour or so later, they called back, said they were sorry, they had it after all , not to worry, if we had any claims during that period they would honor them. Luckily we didn't have anything, but it still worried me.

See, that sloppiness is what worries me too, Bamamav. How can they lose paperwork and checks and then suddenly find them when you press them ? No way to run a business.

But, as I mentioned, people on some forums have had claims and said that Grundy did right by them and quickly. So, who knows.

Customer service to me is key.... I send you lots of money so that if something goes wrong you will take care of me. The one time I have been in an accident (knock on wood, and it wasn't my fault, knock again) progressive was right there. That is who insures all my other stuff. I wanted them to insure my rat but they basically said that they couldn't. Guess I will call Grundy today.

So, now, that being said. Who here runs historical or authentic plates on their rat?

The plate issue depends completely on the rules of your state. I run year plates on all my old iron, but I'm sure we have different rules about it up here in Alberta.

We are running antique plates on our cars, they are titled as the years they are and since they are over 30 years old we get antique plates. Never had an issue with them.

Mine is titled as a 47 Dodge so I could run an authentic or historical plate. Just wasn't sure how many actually do. Michigan seems kind of strict on their rules.
