How to mount your rearend using junkyard parts.

Built the X-member outta 2" square tubing and mounted the front brackets there. Cut some patterns and made up the lower shock mounts. Fabbed the upper mounts also.

    Bending square tube

Click the link. About halfway down the page under 'Creating an inexpensive tube bender'. The guy fabbed up some quick dies to bend 1" square tubing. Pretty trick! http://www.hotrodders.com/scratch-built/Body:_Fabricating_the_Skeleton

    front axle help

Yep, stock Model T. Utterly useless! Compare it to mine off a '27 roadster. I sold it to a restorer for a few bucks.

What Did Ya Get Done This Weekend?

Was able to get a super deal on a T5 tailshaft housing, top cover and shifter from a '94 Chevy S/10 at Pick-N-Pull on Saturday. Spent the weekend obtaining those and swapping them onto my '87 TurboCoupe T5. This swap places the shifter 7" further forward providing a much better shifter...

    Ideas for chassis-to-body isolation

I'll be using an old conveyor belt grabbed from work for my ride but, Rustybeercan, that's a great idea! I luv using materials that have no automotive application, at all, and making them work for our purposes! Better yet, try a boat repair yard and see if they have any old ones laying around!

What Did Ya Get Done This Weekend?

I was able to get brackets built for mounting the trailing arms and rear coilovers on the roadster. Still have to weld in gussets and a few other things and also need to mount the panhard bar. Maybe today!

    Molases rust remover

WOW! 2.5 gals for $42 is a lot! I think I paid around $60 for 20 gals. I suggest head south towards Gilroy or San Juan. The rural areas are gonna have bulk sales. Much cheaper that way. Or, if you happen to be up north in the Petaluma area, Rivertown Feed at the corner of 1st and D st is...

    23 t rat

Sounds intriguing! I'm sure everyone, including me, would like to see however, no one has Shutterfly. Just post an attachment right off your computer or get a Photobucket account (it's free) and you can post full sized pics to this site.

    Smaller engine rat rods??

Nobody has mentioned turbos yet. I've been running V8's for 30 years but a few years ago I decided, with the economy and the price of gas, changes needed to be made. I'm getting well over 300 hp outta the 2.3 turbo in my Mustang and if I can keep my foot out of it (big if!) 28-30 mpg is easily...

Movin' right along! You got a ton done in the last year and a half! Excellent metal fab skills, too! You're probably gonna get yours on the road before I do. Superb job, young man!!

    Finally started the roadster build

Another small update. I finished the rear half of the frame. It doubles as a subframe therefore, the body panels mount to the rails. That's why the rail extension beyond the kickup. Also, I received all 4 drums from RockAuto for $119 shipped. Sounds like alot, doesn't it? $50...

    Yesterdays junkyard haul!

All this for under $150! Gotta luv Pick-N-Pull and their Toolkit Rewards program. This past weekend was 1/3 off for members only. You're looking at 2nd seat outta a Dodge Caravan (minivan). Soon to be covered by a mexican blanket and it fits like a glove between the roadster bun panels...

    S10 REAR End

I know this is an older thread but if you're still looking here's a Maverick 8" rear. The yoke is fairly centered and the rearend width is 56" WMS to WMS. Also, here's a list of rearend widths............... Rearend widths

    Spring perch tube

Most steel retailers have a rack that they throw their cast off pieces on after they cut a stick to length. They usually sell the remanants for a few bucks. I just used some 3/16" tubing that I scanvenged from work. We use it in our railing systems. Not DOM but it works!
