Well, winter came early and power is out all over town including my place of employment but they have us here anyway. Good thing I brought her into the shop this morning because otherwise she'd be pretty weighed down with snow.

Yup rather depressing looks the same here with 50mph winds.:mad:
 
Well guys I have been super busy at work lately. Decided to put in for a promotion, didn’t get it, so now I’m bustin my rear so that one day it’ll happen. So what little off time I have had has been spent chasing deer but now that hunting season is over it’s time to get back at it. Got the front end up copper rebuilt...again, and now the engine is pulled and taken apart. Really glad I didn’t run it any longer. The must have also been a blown head gasket because I pulled the valve covers and they were coated with chocolate milk. Removed the intake and there were small puddles of antifreeze in the valley. Pulled the heads but didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. Only major issue was #1 had 2 good size scoremarks up and down the cylinder from broken rings. Got the pistons and rods out and #7 has a hairline crack through the cylinder wall. Im guessing that is where my water was coming from. Now it’s just time to clean parts and get the new engine from my buddy’s dad so I can freshen it up(was rebuilt about 10 years back but hasn’t been run since) and put it all back together. Anyhow, here are a few pictures.

Got news the other day that I’m being sent down to welding school again. This time for structural wire feed. I’ll be certified for vertical, horizontal, and overhead steel up to 1-1/2” thick. Just some more stuff to put on my resume.

So as I said in a previous post, I pulled the engine from the car and disassembled it. Spent the morning today cleaning up the intake and heads, just in case the heads on the replacement engine don’t have the same combustion chambers. Seeing as the engine didn’t come out as smooth as I had hoped, I decided to trim up the firewall just a bit. Should allow for poking the new one in a bit easier. I’m also going to polish up the firewall while the engine is out just so it’s that much easier to clean.

So I’ve been back for about 2 weeks now but haven’t gotten to get to work on the 33 yet. Weather has been complete crap and I haven’t even wanted to really leave the house let alone drive out to the middle of nowhere in a snow storm to get an engine. However a couple of tranny parts came in today so I can get that put back together while everything else is on hold. In other news, I’ve decided that it’s time to upgrade to a larger welder but haven’t been able to decide on the “one” yet. I’m looking at the Lincoln tig200 or the tig225 but haven’t been able to decide. I’ve gotta save up the cash for either one so it’s not a huge rush but trying to weigh the pros and cons of both.
 
Yeah she does. Really wanna get the new one dropped in soon and tuned up. Then I can finally pull her out of the garage and into the trailer for the rest of the winter. That way I can get around to cleaning up the garage and bring Leslie’s rod back in and get cracking on it again.

Made a deal on a truck today to rob the engine out of. It’s a 1968 f-250 with a rebuilt 390, C6, and factory air. Plan is to pull the engine, swap intake manifolds, and drop the engine in the 33. Someday I’ll build the truck into a dropped driver but until then it’ll sit beside the garage.
 
Decided to rework the radiator support, shock mounts, and headlight mounts while the engine was out. Decided it was best to make a legitimate fan shroud for it and I think it turned out decent enough. Mocked everything back up and it all fits like a glove.

I was looking at the front end the other day and noticed that the front crossmember was bowing in. The only thing I could figure was there was too much rearward stress on the center of the crossmember. I decided that it was time to refab the front end, yet again. Cut out the piece of pipe and put in place a piece of 2x2x.250 tube. Moved the spring back to sit directly under the crossmember, cut the hairpin mounts off and moved them back about 8” or so. So now it’s just waiting for the snow to melt, getting the truck, plucking the engine, and getting her in the car. So ready for winter to end.

Havent been on lately as I’ve been working mad hours at work leaving me with only a small amount of home time and not much time in the garage. Got my new wire feed ordered today and next is to work towards a tig rig. Maybe once weather actually gets better and stays better I’ll be able to spend less time at work and more time in the garage. It’s been one helluva winter up here and it’s probably been just as bad for you guys north of the border.
 
So there’s really nothing new to post up about other than my new welder(lincoln power mig 256) should be here any day now and I just made a deal on a Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 51 that I found on craigslist. It’s not very often you see a newer machine for sale up here and when you do it’s typically broken and needing more to repair then what it’s worth. Still waiting on all te snow and ice to melt so I can get the truck hone and yank the engine. I really wish that it would just warm up and stay warm already.
