working on it again

l went out and pulled the mock up motor & trans today.

mocked up a bunch of the wiring l just hadn't got to before.

will have to remove some of the wiring clamps that is holding the wiring to the firewall and frame to put the firewall cover on when l get a sheet of aluminum to cover all the holes in the firewall. that's easier than trying to weld up the mess that's there now.

l plan on putting some time on this thing to get it close to running while we still have good weather left this year.

l got mass amounts of cleaning and painting on the frame and suspension left to do while its apart:eek:

firewall

we got some done on the firewall today. used a panel off of the dirt car chassis that was a door panel. the dirt on the firewall will be cleaned and painted. l wanna put flames on it[ddev

talked to a friend tonight and he knows a guy that will lay them out for me.

l seen the ones he did on my buddy's truck and they look good:D

worked on the master cylinders today, the duel master system is gonna work out well.

progress

progress has been slow, still sorting out the wiring and brakes.

over the spring l mocked up everything and then this summer tore it down to start final assembly.

getting anxious to finish her, it always takes so much longer to put it together than tear it apart:(

a while

been a while since l did anything to the sedan, so l decided to start on it
and hope she's runnng for summer.

the guy l paid to do my 7OOR4 bailed on me and l can't find the guy:mad:

the tranny l have is a turbo 350 longshaft out of a 1969 impala wagon. it was rebuilt with B&M parts and a stage 2 shift kit in 1982 and with fluid changes every 75 thousand miles it still performs great :D

the cross member is set up for the OD trans so l am building a mount extension so everthing fits.

l have 33 X 18.5 X 15 M/T's and 3:25 gears. at 60MPH the motor should tach at 22OO.

update

l wanted to get back on this one so it can be done for summer, pain trying to do 2 projects at once, but l have most everything for both, so l will try hard to get'em running.

since the 327 needed rebuilt a change of plans, got another engine in trade so now:

a rebuilt ZZ4 350Cl/4OO HP motor.

a rebuilt to withstand 500HP 7OOR4 with extra deep pan l just picked up last week.

a new 25OORPM stall converter.

new flywheel/flex plate.

still using the ford 9" with 3:25 gears

that ought to be fun in a 25OO pound car:D

measure

l did some measuring and the drive shaft is gonna be a short littlte thing so l am going to have to cut one down.

again, the pack rat in me saves the day as l have 2 dozen stuck up in the rafters.

l been saving them for many years and it comes in handy a lot 'cause there hard to find in wrecking yards any more since they crush everything and the growing numbers of front wheel drive stuff.

You've got some nice parts there, skull. Should make the hot rod fun to drive. ANd it will cruise at low RPM's.

The yards around here pick the junkers up with a forklift and bend the driveshafts so it is hard to find a good one. It's expensive but I have started getting all new ones.
 
windows

l am using the long U grooved wall shelf wall brackets for window channels. l pop riveted/screwed them around the inside of the window frame on the door, then using lexan for side windows and the black V grooved rubber with steel inner liner ,designed for trim molding around door jambs, to go around the outside of the windows so they don't beat themselves to pieces in the channel and help it go up and down.


the windows in this thing roll up and down very easily, which amazes me for a 80 year old car, and yes, they are the original window mechanisms and brackets that hold the glass in place.

the windshield will be a one piece modern safety glass glued in so it won't open, but l really don't need it to, with all the air leaks we will get plenty of air circulation.

headlight

these are what l am planning to use on the car. there the headlights with the built in signals.

has anyone used these & if so, do they work 0K?[S

I've seen these on ebay presented as lights with turn signals, but they are really more just marker lights - the LED is kinda too small to be properly visible, especially with the lights on. Of course it would be really easy to just drill the holes for the LED's out and install a socket for larger bulbs like an 1157 or larger LED equivalent.
 
brake light switch

for the brake lights l am using a pressure activated in line switch.

so much easier than trying to fab up a bracket for the mechanical type activated off the after market wilwood race style brake pedal l am using.

I had that set up on my old race car, did brake lights and was a safety so the car wouldn't start without the brakes depressed. Worked great until I lost brake pressure and had to start it to get it home. Hahah
