I'm working on it a little today so I'll see what gets done.

I got some work done on the car today.
I cut 2 pieces of 1/8" aluminum to make a 16"x 36"x 9" gas tank.
Then put a radius die in my press brake, bumped an arch in the top piece and bent rounded corners on the bottom piece.

I cut and welded in a piece across the bottom for a baffle so the gas won't slosh back and forth

Tacked the top and bottom together

Then welded the 2 pieces together

I'll have to leave the ends open until after I get the sending unit, pickup tube and fill spout in.
This tank is the same shape as the original was and will bolt in the same position.

I really like aluminum (TIG welding the stuff especially) and plan to build one for my '38. I wonder if you have concerns with corrosion? Alcohol-blended gas is the reason I ask and your opinion is valued as always.

Doc, I've built several aluminum tanks in the past few years and have not had any give me corrosion problems.
The very first tank I built 3 years ago is in my 66 C10 and a couple days ago I had it on the lift. I seen no signs of a problem there either, inside or outside.
I would trust aluminum over mild steel any ole day.
I use aluminum fuel lines and high quality hoses too.

I was able to finish the gas tank after cleaning and straightening the shop today.

I got my wheels in a couple days ago too

I've go to save up a little geetus to buy the tires now.

They look like 22's or 24's next to it....not that would be terrible or anything...
Might have to get some 12" subs too...LOL...sometimes I crack myself up...
