Finished assembling the engine yesterday and got it painted today. What a difference some paint and a couple shiny bits make :). Time to bring the frame back in and start assembling the chassis.

That's really nice! It will stand out in the engine bay. How do you keep from getting overspray all over everything?

Thanks Bob! I staple a thin plastic wall up to the ceiling around the stuff I'm painting, put a fan under the edge and the fumes go out a door in the ceiling. Like a tent sorta, I just duck under the edge and spray away. One by-product is the ever changing color of the floor. Kinda primitive but I've painted 10 cars in there this way..

Got the rear end all rebuilt, new bearings, seals and a new posi diff. It's been probably 35 years since I assembled a Chevy rear end so I had to dig through the cobwebs in the ol' memory bank to sort it out [S. All those shims are pain in a$$......

I've rebiult a couple of those -wire brush black rattle can and a few prayers. Everytime I think I'm going inside, those shims scare me off.

As always, everything looks great; can't wait to see the paint on the body.

So, have you told or shown the previous owner what has become of the car? Looking back at the first page, this thing is nothing short of a miracle (in my opinion) and he/she should be glad that you reinvented it so it could live another life.

I can't speak for ZZ, but as far as we know, he hasn't burned the house down yet.

HA No I haven't - I'm thinking of just pulling in his yard when it's finished for maximum shock value .

Good one ! I won't leave the gas can layin' around.....

Today my wife ran out of chores for me so I got down to assembling some of the chassis, got the engine mounted too. It's definitely inspiring when you can start putting the finished pieces together!

i have ad a hard time trying to get stuff done around the house today and read through all these pages. man what a build you've done. and at the pace you work is amazing. i was thinking early on it needed paint. i cant believe the shape that car is in being from up there. ive got an aunt and other family in upstate New York and there cars are just gone in no time and about impossible to find anything old in any kind of shape. i was thinking it would look good in pearl white with purple fenders. but black would look killer to and probably longer in black. love this build and the golf cart. cant wait to see the finished car. enjoy it, thinking about keeping it yet?

Got more assembly done on the chassis today. Pretty much all that's left to do on it is plumbing - brakes, air, fuel, battery cables and tranny lines. Fortunately I remembered to drill holes for bolting on all the line clamps before painting the frame - it would be a pain to do it now....
More trips to the auto parts store....

Pretty Nice ZZ....This is the part where it gets exciting...the anticipation of driving it is on your mind and every part that you put on it is closer to that goal...[dr[P[cl

Thought I'd be done with the chassis prep but the little things seem to be doggin' me all the way. Air lines are in and tested, fuel system done, battery cables done, brake lines done but not bled (a real problem with something there...). I thought I'd fire up the engine today but after a couple farts and barks thru the carb, I ran down the battery and the boneyard starter is making unhappy noises...
Some of the lines are close to the exhaust so I made and installed some stainless heat shields to protect them.
The brake bleeding is making me nuts, I'm running out of ideas as to what's going wrong...

I can't make out where your brake lines are running. But I was having a problem bleeding the brakes on my 51. I had a little kick up in the line at flex line that dropped down to the tee on the rear end. I had to have someone pump the brake while I cracked the fittings at the high spot. After about 20 times of this I final got brakes.

Yeah, there's several high spots in the lines, all potential air locks. I always dread the brake bleeding - brake fluid and painted parts are not a happy combo.. that's why I've given up on painting master cylinders....
