and did you give this to your wife?

I have a feeling that If I gave that to Mrs. Neverdone, she would make me eat it.......

I will try it and let you know :D

hard for me to imagine a life like that...

are any of you "older guys" able to verify this as a "real way of life"

if so, i may actually go back to my shop and work on my time machine!!!;)

Women really got screwed by the whole womens lib movement. If it wasn't for that, they wouldn't be expected by society to have a job and then also have to take care of the home. They could have still been kicking around at home all day, and with modern conveniences, they woulda had it easy.

I knew of families like the TV shows. Ozzie and Harriet,Leave it to Beaver,Happy Days. Everything changes. Sex used to be womens work. It was the womans responsibility to keep her man satisfied at home. The neighbors would notice and talk if the husband was staying out late.

Maybe in the cities and towns, but out in the country, I'm sure life was different. I've heard my Mother and Grandmother talk of life in the country, and it was nothing like what was portrayed on TV and in books of the time. The women worked as hard as the men in the fields and at home. Of course I come from a poor background, my Mom didn't get electricity in their house until her senior year in school, 1957, and Dad's folks didn't get it either until around 1958.

That arcticle sounds like a script for "Father Knows Best" or "Leave it to Beaver". I know it was nothing like that in this area, but it might have been in town. Country folks didn't {and still don't} live like that....

While some of that writeup is a little extreme, a lot of it was what things were really like back then. The man was the boss of the house and the women were somewhat subserviant to them. My own Mom was like that, and always hustled to make sure the housework and dinner were done when my Dad came home.

Dad pretty much called the shots, he wasn't abusive to my Mom in any way, but would chew her out sometimes if he thought something wasn't done the right way. One time she used an expensive cut of meat to make stew and he could tell right away what it was and raised hell about it. My Dad worked 3 jobs a day, so we had a pretty nice life financially, but he wasn't around much. He died when I was about 11 of a heart attack, so I really don't remember much about him during those years.

I emailed a copy of that list of things to my ex wife yesterday. Today she emailed me back. I see her sense of humor hasn't improved since we divorced 14 years ago. :D:D

You're right, depending on what part of the country you are in. I'm originally from the east coast and most women my age are career-focused and work thier butts off.

Now in Houston...it's like 1955 but with modern conveniences and the kids are in daycare/school at least 1/2 the day. I'm one of the few guys at the office whose wife actually works. As far as I can tell, most of them just drive around wasting money all day and planning birthday parties. These guys need to wake up and put these women to work!! ;)

I love your sense of humor Don, I've only been divorced for 4 years or so, but I would love to send that to the ex... [cl

I grew up on a farm in Idaho. I remember my grandfather coming in from the field and sitting down on the couch.

By the time his butt contacted the cushion there was a cold drink next to him.

When it ran out he would rattle the ice in the glass and my grandmother would jump up like she was shot out of a cannon and fill it back up.

My wife is not quite that way but she does stay at home and maintain the house. Dinner is usually ready when I get home and she will fill my glass for me if I ask politley.
