I imported this car from Montana to New Zealand late last year and have got stuck into it already. It is a 9 seater, 383 MEL and auto and has been sitting since 1971. I stripped the motor and found it to be on its way out so will probably try and get a 460 to put in it as it will be cheaper than rebuilding the 383. Here are a few pics of when I first got it and will update as it progresses.

Super cool car you've got there, and i'm from MT so I like it even better!

Are you sure about ditching the 383? That's got to be a pretty rare engine, it was only made for 2 years, it'd be cool to see it stay in action. Plus it has plenty of HP in stock form to compete with the 460 anyway.

The floors were the main part that needed replacing, most of the car was otherwise solid. Here is the before shot and will post up a new shot of what they look like now in a couple of weeks when I see the car next.

Thanks, yeah it will cost me a lot in parts to rebuilt since I am from New Zealand. I am still going to keep it for now just in-case I build another rat rod as it would be a cool motor to put in one. The 460 is so common that they are easy to get parts for and put out some decent power.

This is my other project that I have put hold on while I get the Mercury road legal Its a 1927 Essex that was powered by a 350 chev but now have a 454 chev and 4 speed muncie.

As you can tell I do like my cars rusty....

I thought I would get my ass into gear and post an update.

I have had all of the panel beating done and I am in the process of painting the car now, will post pics when it is done.

I have also bought a DOVE 460 and ridgeback C6 for the Merc which I will be putting in after I have painted the engine bay

Glad to see the updates and that you're still makin progress [cl
The 460 will make a great power plant.
It's always nice to have the original FoMoCo engines in them too :)
I didn't even know Ford/Mercury made a 383 so, I learned something today

Been a while since I posted here - I have been busy as you can see. Brembo brakes front and rear, 460/C6 sitting between the front wheels and she is finally all go!

Your wagon is sick, I'd like to have something like that to pick up parts and drive to work a few days a week.

Awesome man this thing looks really great, well done. I really dig the modern style bigger wheels on there. What kind/size are those?

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated!

These are pretty rare cars - especially trying to find parts for them.

The wheels are Boss 338 20x8 up front and 20x10 out back.

Not too sure how much gas is these days - must be around $2.30 for 98 octane, when the car needs gas, I just fill it up!

cheers
