Now that the cab is mounted to the chassis I am able to mock up the front cap. In these pics the fenders have been raised . In relation to the hood the fenders are about 4" higher than than they would have been originally. This gives the illusion that it has been sectioned . In reality the only thing sectioned will be the grill/ hood. I also have some new cab corners installed . I found these on ebay for $35 each. The running boards will be raised , thus giving the effect of the cab being channeled and sectioned . Again only an illusion.

I like the use of the word"Illusion". Raising the fenders does just that.
What are you going to do about your box height?
My truck has been chopped and channeled and if I leave the box close to stock height it looks sectioned some what as well. Although in my mock up I raised the box to match the belt line on the cab.

Well Torchie since you asked I guess I will get on to the bed. I was having trouble finding a bed. I came close to building one from scratch but this is going to be a rat and I wanted something with patina and character . I am also constrained by time and budget. After looking for awhile I found a bed at a decent price . Around $200 , I can't remember exactly , and another trip to Arkansas . It's a chevy , but I figured since there's no rules here I can do that. LOL The rear fenders were found by a friend at the lonestar roundup and after a little negotiation my buddy delivered them for about $250. A little more than I wanted to spend but these fenders weren't short on character . LOL they were pretty rough but the metal looked solid enough to weld ,and like I said this is going to be a rat.

The bed was originally 6 1/2 ' long . I shortened it to about 5' . The trucks wheelbase is 104". I cut off of the front and the back of the bed. I removed the original stake pockets from the cutoff from the front and reused them. I thought about getting some new ford stake pockets but you know the budget thing got me . Besides it just wouldn't look right with new parts . The original stake pockets from the rear were in bad shape . I'm still undecided about trying to save them or do something else . I don't have a tailgate either so I will worry about the back of the bed later. For now I want to get the rest of the truck together, and I'm running out of time.

I struggled for a while trying to decide what to do with the firewall. As I mentioned previously L got a little carried away with engine setback . I kept cutting more and more of the original firewall until it was just all gone. I want to do something with a nice radius , clean and functional. In the end I settled for functional. I used some more 16 gauge and just made a basic firewall. With the firewall in I started on brackets for the brake / clutch pedals. I will be using an old triple master cylinder assembly from a dirt modified. My budget forces me to use what's here . Besides the adjustability of having separate front and rear MC's with a balance bar will help facilitate great burnouts !

The original rear fenders off of the 39 standard worked well to extend the front fenders . this gives the front fenders the same profile as the rear fenders . I absolutely love these fat swoopy fenders ! I wish I was creative enogh to think of this on my own , but I cannot take credit for that . I've seen this done twice before and it was a look that I just had to try and duplicate .

I finally got to the doors . I wasn't quite sure how to go about making the doors fit . I couldn't come up with a plan that I was happy with . Finally it was time and I just started cutting . While I still have a lot of work to do on the doors , it's looking like this just may work ! I figured with my tight schedule I will get them cut and tacked together , then get the hinges and latches worked out . I will finish the doors after I get the truck up and running.

I really like the look you are going with on the long fender... chop looks good too..

Can you get the doors open all the way with those fenders?

The doors are suicide and shortened at the bottom to be able to raise the running boards. The front was cut to clear the fender. I built a rocker panel that rises up in the front to meet the door. There is still a lot to be done before I can call the doors "finished".
