I have only been working on this for a few months. Going to be making faster progress soon. I am having an issue finding a common rear axle that is 62" or wider, so if any one has any thoughts that would be great. I want the jeep to set low in between the rear tires. Thanks I'll keep updating. Pics FYI the first pics the concept not the finished product.

Need Help From Some Custom Car Vets

I found a rear axle that fits my cars requirements for width. It came out of a 2000 Ford F150 4x4. Did not really think it through while at the junk yard but after getting it home and putting it in place found that the rear axle shaft is offset on center by about 3" due to the 4x4 configuration I'm sure. This means that with my standard 350 motor installation that I will have a 3" offset in my drive line. I don't know it that's too much. I would hate to bring back this heavy pig of a rear axle and get another but want to do it right. Any comments or ideas would be Great, thanks.

The only thing it means is that you will have a crooked driveshaft tunnel. Do not angle the engine and trans at the diff. Keep it parallel to vehicle centerline.

Most stock trucks have more up and down offset stock. The driveshaft doesn't care if the offset is up and down or side to side as long as the trans output and pinion are parallel.

Axle Issues

Thanks for the response guys. That was my first thought too. It should not matter if a normal offset rolls a quarter turn and is side to side. I just didn't want it to look like I hacked it in. It bothers me the more I look at it. I'm gonna have to hurry and fab up a drive shaft tunnel or head back to the junk yard. But thanks for the advice at least I now fell more comfortable using it if I do keep it.
