Thanks, glad you're enjoying the posts.

Next week (or for sure the following week) the firetruck should be back from vacation. I'm looking forward to getting it back inside and doing some work on it.

Well the paying job continued with 7 more projects thus extending the firetruck's vacation -but perhapd increasing its budget. He's a couple photos of the railing that has put the firetruck uner tarp.

The top rail and posts are wood They are being redone a lighter color - luckily that has nothing to do with me.

beautiful railing... you do outstanding work, there are so many talented people on here...

If we can't get progress on the truck, we will take the blacksmith shots gladly. [cl

Happy to hear you picked up some more paying work. :)

Bummed there isn't any progress on the truck. :(

Thanks for the cheers on the railing, guys.

Well I'm a bit late with this, but the firetruck is back in the shop.

I have an impending feeling of doom. I feel like I have jinxed my retirement - someone is going to want a gate or something.

At any rate, I spent a while assessing the project. There's a little more rust than before, but nothing serious. I had already decided to go a different direction with the dash. I have a few new ideas, but no decisions.

I like the grille shell - it's a keeper. The steering seems to work well - at least when we have been pushing it around the driveway.

glad to see you are back at it... now if some of us others would do the same we would be in business...

Just spent better parts of three days reading through this build. If I said I was impressed it would be the understatement of the year! Both you and truckster have done an amazing job on it. That railing, BTW, is it in Fort Knox??? perley

Took a couple days to think about what comes next. i have been contemplating the dash for months (with a little time off for paying work) and haven't been able to get any more than half an idea.

So ...I welded in a rusty cross brace to keep it in shape and got out the plamsa cutter. Made a cardboard mock - up; then rolled a piece of 1.5 diameter to make the top radius.

it feels like i've got a whole idea now - we'll see how it progresses.

Every time I think the paying jobs are finished, someone comes along and wants something else. Now I'm doing a kitchen of drawer/door pulls and another fireplace surround. Maybe I'll make some progress after Christmas?

Doug came by a couple weeks ago and provided a solution to my problem with the "dash - meets - the windshield" issue. I changed direction on the seats - I'm going to build buckets and forget the bench seat. I pretty much need the seats to mount the steering column -before i can finish the dash - before I can pull the body, so I can finish the frame.

And I have 3 more scars on my shins where I have barked them up on the rear axle hubs. I wonder if temporarily painting them orange would help.

When building a car from scratch, there is a whole lot of "what needs to come first?". It seems like everything you modify affects something else.

In the end, the work you do makes it YOURS.

Keep up the good work!

Update

I'm finally ready to start back on this monster - almost.

It's been over a year and there's been a whole lot of work done, but it doesn't look much different.

The photo in the desert is the day I picked it up from Truckster.

The other photos are pretty much what it looks like now, except for the dash. It has been sectioned 5", the firewall smoothed, the rear cowl where the roof was cut off trimmed, the radiator grille mostly in place and done, it has a gas tank and master brake/ hydroboost mounted and linkage. The floor and tunnel are in; the steering and column done.

But, there's so far to go.....
