Just read this thread today for the first time, it was very upbeat till I got closer to the end. Im really sorry for your loss, your dad seemed like a real smart and cool guy. I lost my dad about 10 yrs ago, it was hard at first but time will heal, but not a day goes by that I don't think of him somehow, thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

Apparently he had gone over to the neighbours for a visit and was backing out the driveway when he got stuck in the snow. He was digging himself out when he said he didn't feel well and went into the house to sit down where he then collapsed.
I am going to miss him terrably, he has been a major insparation in my life.

Rodguy,
I'm sorry to hear this!!! My parents were divorced remarried & I had to bury all four of them. My Step-Dad died just like yours... quick but my real Dad lingered & suffered for years. I wanna go fast... it's much better but I miss my Dads even though they've been gone for decades. My real Dad was a real car nut & I still wish I could call him up & talk about cars again! That part *never* fades! Sorry to hear it about your loss... just think about the good times... that's what I do! It helps!!!

Thank you sooooo much guys for all your messages of condolence. It's an honor to be involve with such a great group of people that are here at RRR. It's been 6 weeks now since dad passed and it still seems unreal to me. I was up to his place on the weekend for the first time since the funeral. I can see his mark in everything there, and it was very hard, and yet strangly encouraging. You see dad never wasted a single minute of a day. Even right up till his last he was going about his business as though nothing could stop him. He was many thing in his life. A son, husband, father, mechanic, artist, poet, and friend. He continues to inspire me and always will. The pieces of my life will be rearranged and put back together, and I will continue my life and smile because I know he's watching.

very cool truck,im also building a 50 f6 cab and hood,was wondering your wheelbase,mines at 140'' now

Wow, I didn't think there would be anyone that would beat my wheelbase. Mine started out at 140" but I reduced it to 138". I felt that with such a large cab that to my eye in needed a longer wheel base than most to be in proportion. Now that being said I think Tiny's F1 turned out fantastic, and looks right on the money.

I'd love to see some picks of your ride.

I just went back and read this entire thread.

You are doing some great work on the project, reguardless of the situation you are placed in. Hats off to you.

Keep your chin up, keep a smile on...........And post some more pics...:D

Thanks Flat. You know we all face life's challenges and I truly believe there are there to help us grow and learn. I was very blessed to have the time that I did with my dad, and he made me realize how important the little things are. Even through all these challenges when doors seem to be closing there have been some opening too. I have a new lady in my life who is without a doubt the love of my life, and I will be making yet one more move this year. Yes, this is to be with her and together we are opening up my life long dream..... A Hot Rod Shop. The really wonderful thing about all this is that she is just as nuts for cars as I am.... a match made in heaven for sure. lol. Location has yet to be decided on, but I will keep you guys tuned in. Oh, and yes the truck will be the first project to be completed, perhaps before the end of the summer. We shall see. So, flat there will be many more pics coming and lots of fun in the future.

Like Mudbone.......I was chirping along enjoying your build then your Dad's shop & the chevelle burned up..... You guys rebounded but the sad news of your Dad's passing hit me right between the eyes....WOW......He is in a better place now (and my thoughts go out to you & your family). I not sure I'd have as much strenght as you but....
Please continue to post updates.

Oh.....and good luck with the new lady & opening of the hot rod shop.

Well it's long over due, but now it's time for some updates.
I've been very busy at work with a customer project, but I have been making time for my truck as well. Last summer I picked up a Ford 9" rear from a 60 Montclair which is the perfect width for my truck with out needing to be narrowed. So I have been working on rebuilding it. I have all new bearings seals, and breaks. Now I'm in need of a gear set as there is some water damage to some of the cogs on the original 3.00 gear set.

Now I have a question for all the 9" experts out there. The Third member in this rear is a W.A.R. I have another 9" from a later pickup truck that has a 2.70 gear set but I'm not sure what the third member is. Will these gears fit in my W.A.R. pot. Are the bearing sizes all the same from one rear to another. I would like to use these taller gears as I'm also going to use a T-5 trans and a 283 in the drive line and I'm looking for fuel economy. Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert but.......although the WAR third member was & mean was considered a strong unit in reality it was not. It was made of a softer cast material than all of the others.
The "N" case is of course the "best" but most expensive. A good single rib unit from a later truck is actually VERY strong.

A 9" is a 9" generally speaking. So......gear sets & posi, spools & traction lockers will fit into each.

Unless your really pounding out some real LARGE horsepower the WAR case should be fine strenght wise.

I think you can google search the 9" & get some decent info.

Thanks Ratty, yeah I knew the WAR wasn't the best, but it came cheep. I'm not planing on running and crazy horse power. I'll be happy with 275 when I'm all said and done. Just enough power to get out of my own way. :D
Now if I were to run my 454 that came out of my Chevelle that would be another story. A buddy of mine made the comment that, that motor had so much power when you dumped the clutch on take off you could see yourself in the rearview mirror for just a split second.

I can relate roddguy......I'm an old drag race guy from the 70's. I just could not compete with cubic money!!!

I'm in search of a dble. ribb'd 9" as the "N" case complete run about 7-900 claims....seems a bit much for a daily driven street car. Although... I've spent the coin on the Alston FAB9 housing....

I put them in strenght line as: "N" case, double rib "non WAR", single rib "non WAR", then the WAR case aka/ third member.

I also rate the carriers for street driving as: Eaton Posi unit, Detriot Locker, Ford traction lock. A spool should NOT be utilized on the street nor a 1/2 spool and welded spider gears - HA.......that's "traditional".

Well guys I'm sorry, but I'm still not able to post any pictures. I don't know why or what the problem is as I have tried eveything I can think of to get them to load. It seems it all started when this sight was hacked and I have continued to have slow loading and not able to load pics at all. So If there is anyone that is interested in following along with my build you will need to head over to www.Killbillet.com to see my updates and pics. I will continue to be a member and I love participating in the forums. It's just very unfortunate that there is some problem here with posting that I can't figure out.

Thanks
Randy

this is a test.
