When GM came out with those lights, they were an instant hit.

thanks guys. I really didn`t see any other way to get those lights in, given the shape and room available. I forgot to take pics of the process but I started with cutting holes in the steaks and fixed the light in position. Then worked sheetmetal straight up around them. That gave me an edge to work towards with the exterior panels. The lid side was not too difficult but the outer side was tricky to get a snug fit since the steak has a curve to it.
I hope they wont look out of place when the lid is done.
I notice you've said "lid" a couple times but I'm not sure what you're referring to, is that what you call the tailgate?
