'57 Ford door latch fix?!

The passenger side door of my '57 Ranchero will not stay shut. The star mechanism on the drivers side stays in one position until shut. The pass side spins freely. Any tips on fixing this problem or should I look for a replacement piece?

What does the button feel like. If the button has no tension, the internal linkage may be stuck in the open position and will not let the cog wheel engage for it to latch. I feel you are definitely going to have to pull the door panel and grab a flashlight.

I agree. I just had to do this today on my son's car.
