You guys making fun of my clean floor??? Well, it looks better in a small photo than it does in person. When you're an elderly hot rod builder it's necessary to stop fairly often to rest from lifting, pulling, tugging and getting up off the floor. Those rest periods are shop clean up time.

Threw some braces in the body today. And "threw" is the operative word. One of them is a little caddy whompus but I ain't changing it.

There seems to be some slight dimensional differences between the quarter panels. Possibly from different stamping dies when made.

I'll tackle the deck lid when I get some sheet metal.

Coping with Coping

Added coping around the corners and across the back. Now working on the panel above the deck lid. Have to put a bit of a dish in it so follows the top of the quarter panels better. I didn't know if it would look okay with the "scooped" line back of the doors but I didn't see a better way. Could have made the doors an inch shorter but too late now.

FV, there are a couple ways to title this thing. In Minnesota we can fill out a form called "Statement of Facts". Just tell the story of where the parts came from. In this case there are no identifying numbers on anything. Send it in to the state with pictures of all four sides and wait to see what else they want. Possibly a bond. Sometimes it goes smooth, sometimes it doesn't.

IF I build a dragster to house the Jeep 6 cylinder engine that I have been gathering parts for, it will resemble this one:

Looks like a cool ride. Cage looks like a up graded 3 point with helmet bars.

That chassis with one of your warmed over sbc motors is a 10 sec ride all day with a small investment. Back in early 70's Dixie and me ran a 160" front motor dragster with a bone stock 350 sbc and ran 10.50 - 10.90. Just pure fun and ultra low maintenance. :D[cl:)

Picking away at the body. I cut two side pieces for the deck lid out of 14ga plate and welded a 1" square tube across the top. After the lower crossmember is in place, 20ga sheet metal will cover the whole works. The deck lid size is determined by the size of the piece of sheet metal I have. Budget build, you know.

Anyone have an idea for low cost exposed hinges?

Tom, the dragster in my mind will use the Jeep engine I'm gathering parts for. That should keep it in the 10's.,.or 11's if it is a dog.

Bob. If you are lookin for some thing finished but not just a hardware store hinge I've always liked the 49 Ford Trunk hinges. Perhaps they have some at parts yard that you told me your friends goes to. French lake??? I've seen them go for as little as $25 a pair.
Or the 41-48 Chevy trunk hinges.
The price on these seem to be even better on that auction site.

Good suggestions, Torchie. I'll check with my friend Titus. Young fella has a few thousand parts laying around.

Project is looking great, nice metal work [;)

Nice idea on the dragster for the Jeep engine, I like the modified 3 point cage style. [P[P

Got more framing and bracing done on the deck lid and the area below it. Will add sheet metal tomorrow.

Dozer, Those hinges are swap meet price. Good deal!
