What a cool car! Love the style. I wouldn't have been one of those thinking you were crazy to bring it home. Would have been "let's get started!" :p

A little side note:

This is what my yard looked like the day Bubba got killed. He had started tearing the truck apart, and it was a mess!

Now today, some 8 1/2 years later, I drug the truck from the bushes where I had stored it. I want to redo it one of these days, but after seeing how bad the rust is in the floor, I may not ever fool with it. It was rusty when he parked it, and time hasn't been good to it. The drivers floor is gone, passengers side is weak with several holes. I know I could put pans in it, but right now, I don't know if I want to. Maybe later. I have another engine I can use in it, I wanted this one as it's supposed to be a roller cam

Here is the engine. It has been closed up, so nothing has gotten into it. Still full of oil and antifreeze. Put a socket on the balancer and it turns free, sounds as it has good compression. Didn't want to turn it much until I can pull the plugs and squirt some oil in the cylinders. I think it will be OK. Going to lose the FI and go with a carb and a points dizzy.

Started taking stuff loose to pull it, but the heat drove me back inside. Still like one exhaust pipe, motor mounts, and miles of wiring and plugs. No transmission in the truck, but will have to swap flexplates, he put a C4 in it with a 28oz flexplate, and it takes a 50 oz one. I think that is the correct one laying on it. Going to use one of the AOD's I have. May work on it some more today or Monday.
I know it looks rough, but that's just loose stuff laying on it. It will all blow off, and I plan to pressure wash and paint it anyway.

Sorry for the loss of your friend.

I'm confused... are you putting the Ford in your Lincoln? 351 is it?

.

Bubba was my youngest son Dr Crank. He was killed in an auto accident in Feb 08. He was 20 at the time.

Yes, I'm putting this engine in the Lincoln. 5.0 [302] supposedly from a Mustang. Have an AOD trans to go behind it. Should be a nice cruiser.

Hasn't been much going on for the last month, too much heat, grass to cut and bush hogging has kept me busy, and a lot of rain the last couple of weeks also. Did score this intake on eBay though, 289 Performer.

Yesterday, I decided while it was cool, I was going to get the 5.0 out of the truck. About 30 minutes later, it was sitting on the cement. All the computer crap and fuel injection junk look awful. Going to clean it up, and get rid of all that junk. Taking inventory of what else I need.

I'm terribly sorry to learn that, Bama. (My apologies for opening an old wound.)

Sounds good. Here's to a successful and rewarding transplant!

That should be a smooth runner for the lincoln. Im with ya on loosing that Fuel Injection. We can set a carb in the yard alot easier. :D

A little more progress....

Got the engine degreased and pressure washed yesterday. Has gray paint on it. I'm thinking it might be from a pickup instead of a Mustang like I was told. Also got it moved into the work area and started stripping the unwanted stuff off of it. The wiring harness weighs nearly as much as my aluminum intake!

Looks a lot lighter now!

Still have to do some final cleaning [quality time with a scraper and brush] then paint the block. Probably going to paint the valve coversand use them for now until I get a set of finned aluminum one.

One thing I did find out though, I'm not so sure I can run my points distributor. I know the gear would have to be changed since it's a roller cam, but it's also 1/2" shorter. You can see the black area at the bottom of the shaft on the electronic one, that's the difference in length. I may just end up getting a HEI off of eBay, just don't really want that large GM style cap sticking up.

Progress is progress. More to come in the weeks ahead.....

You can make your own HEI system Bama. All you need is a GM ignition module(like a 79 camaro), a high energy coil(94, 95 mustang), different plug wires, and set the gap differently on your plugs. I had that setup on my old 87 dodge ramcharger and it ran great.

Some soft core engine ****

Here's what a couple of hours of getting close and personal with some wire wheels, a die grinder, and $20 worth of paint can do for a used engine!

I say soft core because the valve covers are old rusty chrome units I painted with some silver metallic for now, they will get replaced with some polished aluminum ones in the future. The carb is also a placeholder, may put a kit in it, may just buy a new one, I've never had much luck rebuilding Holleys. Lots of difference between this:

And this:

Still have to work out some kind of idler for the accessory drive, or get a shorter belt:

I don't think this engine has ever been into, the intake gaskets were E5 stamped Ford units. Inside is clean as a pin. I also swapped on the proper spacer plate and 50 oz flexplate, my son had put a 28 oz one on so he could run a C4, even after I told him it wouldn't work. He cranked it and it vibrated a bit, so he took the trans back off, that was as far as he got.
A few more parts and a few more cooler Saturdays and I might be ready to put this bad boy in.

Have you checked to see if you can swap the shaft from one to the other?
