My son and I are at a point where we are searching for a rear axle for the truck. We have the original '36 axle but I don't know much about them. I know you can get the kit to convert it to open drive. What I know little about is their strength. We are going to run a mild SBC with a three speed manual trans. Massive smokey burnouts are not a requirement. I would imagine they are geared pretty low as well.

Any of you folks using one or have experience? I talked to a guy at a local show and he's snapped a few axle keys.

I have one that is open drive I plan to use on my truck, there are a few things you need to do to make them safe. There is a real nice tech on doing one in one of the Rod magazines I have, soon as I find it I'll get you the details.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I have been doing some searching and I found some ring and pinons that can help me get to a decent ratio.
