I like the 54 too especially the color. the doors dont match 100% but he is on the hunt for some teal doors.
I didnt get to the sonoma sunday, I spent the day putting the cnc table together. gotta do it sometime right? I bought the XL kit and the water table too. the only trouble was the bearing on the x axis did not fit the recess. I think it was a bearing issue, the same bearing was tight in the y recess too. I spent as much time carefully sanding the recess as I did on the entire rest of the table assembly.
I cant wait to cut the mounts on it, I have an idea on making them foldable. The pedal assembly too, you dont think I forgot about making the pedal/column mount reproducible? right now the mounts cut and ground and welded take a day, and the pedal assembly about 2. I am hoping to reduce that by 66%, a day for both, that will really speed things up.
but I have been on Mac at the house for 12 years at least. the control software runs on PC, and I havent used one of those in 5 years (last desk job). my first shout out to family goes to my nieces husband (we are closer in age than you think, my niece is my oldest niece) works IT and set me up with an obsolescence unit from his company, Yoga 260 i7 with 16gb ram and 500gb SSD, aa 64 bit machine that will laugh at my CAD/CAM requirements. needs a battery, which as a new purchase cost 1/2 of the unit! I am also picking up either a 27" monitor or dual 24s tomorrow, the laptop came with the docking station with dual monitor support so, "when in rome".
second shout out goes to my brother in law at the local steel shop, he heard my table was ready and sent me 5 pieces of 6' long steel that they cut off the ends of new rolls. the wide pieces are 12 ga and the narrow pieces are 11ga. perfect!
you dont need to call anyone to save jeremy. he is doing fine
and so today I got the front end off the sonoma.
I would have gotten more done but normally I cut the frame horns and keep the front all together, well two different people wanted chunks of the front end and pulling it after didnt appeal to me, so I took it all apart. cest la vie!
tomorrow is supposed to be more bad weather, and the garage is mostly 54 still, so I need to work outside. maybe I will get the mounts designed in CAD and try a test cut.

What is the suffix that your cad export. DXF, SVG, PCM ???

One monitor is good if you only have one window open at a time that you'll be working in. Any more than that, even something as reference, dual monitors are the way to go. At work currently, I have dual monitors for my work and my laptop open for my email. Works great.
I think right now I will only use this for running the machine, I have solidworks on my Mac and thats where I do work design.
OI it takes DXF, but really if you give a dimensioned hand drawing as a JPG I can scan it and clean it up and cut it.

I hear a lot of good reviews on Solidworks.
DXF is the one I use in my cad software. It'll work with DWG too.
The other software does SVG and a few others.

Solidworks is extremely capable, it would do drawings for plasma and water jet really easily but it's very overkill for that purpose.
got the duals set up and tried autocad for part design, trying a foldable mount
needed to make more room in the garage so I moved the compressor into the corner and took the stand up desk to the new shop for now. had to move the electrical for the compressor but that was a snap.
the weather cleared up and the 54 went home so I tackled more of the dismantling, started off right by the ceremonial breaking of the T47.
on 98+ donors, this is just the price of doing business. the inner rear seat bolts are part of the seatbelt attachment so they are special torx bolts installed on the production line by what I imagine to be a goonies chunk style monster with superhuman strength. its not a "add heat" or "add penetrant" issue, once you get it to "crack" you can spin it out by hand. but getting it to crack is the problem. I usually crack the torx.
but everything else came apart really nice.
tomorrow I am running to south haven to pick up that international for my brother, and maybe a soul food lunch in ark city with the homies. it will still be nice so I might get the motor/trans pulled and the frame rolled inside to shorten. have some kechi 49 work to do too.

Looks like the Sonoma tear down went fine. [P
ran for the INTL, had to take off the front clip so the cab would fit sideways on the trailer.
then went for soul food in ark city and THEY WERE CLOSED. sometime between the last I went and now they started closing on monday. no meatloaf, no fired chicken, no collard greens or sweet potato pie. I was devastated, this was the whole reason to go, ark city is east of south haven, so an out of the way trip.
the friend I was meeting in ark city suggested a new place in winfield, which had a great look but just average food (ie: salty bar fare). they had a lot of repurposed car parts as is the common theme now, and in between the bathrooms there was this.
my brother said "grab the headlight bezels" so my lunch order was fish and chips and a flathead screwdriver.
got home and unloaded, forgot the dollies so just dropped the trailer.
when we left in the morning it was 55, but unloading it was down around freezing and its even colder now.
tomorrow I will put door seals on kechi, my last honey do on that truck.

I hate that, had the same thing happen with a burger joint that has the best burgers on the planet. [dr[dr all the way there to find they are closed Mondays.

dozer I know, I am already planning a TUESDAY trip to get my forklift.
drC not really a super fan, always liked the aces high art and it made a nice wallpaper for dual monitors though.
visited kechi to do the door seals, chapter closed. took the doors off and it was still a giant pain like I remembered. the upholstery guy took out the windlace to do the headliner too, so I had to put it back in. yaaaay
he had a 57 dodge with an OM617 mercedes drivetrain in it.
and then I turned the corner into the 1950s.
at least a hundred 50s and 60s cars, mostly 4 doors though.

I decided I like using ext cabs, by shortening you can get the wheelbase exactly right, they are more plentiful and in better shape, and the bed floor is easier. you dont have to mess with removing the bumtangle bracket on the frame either, just a trim is all it needs.
got the motor pulled. I like leaving everything intact on the motor, but I do pull the dizzy and the oil pressure sender since they always get tangled (and broken) in the hoist chain.
uppers are wasted, I will do uppers and tie rods and brakes on this one.
used the old door pins and some 5/16 hose to plug the tank and pull the lines off the frame.
you want everything out of the way of the joint so you can cut and weld in that area.
more coming. it was nice today and will be nicer this weekend! gotta take advantage. I set up my downstairs office with the CAD CAM setup, ready to try test cuts the next nice day.
