I see. I wondered about your dragster. You had a big block Dodge in it, or am I thinking of somebody else?

.

Yep .. when I drove it I had a Dodge 451 stroker (400 block, 440 crank) combination in it. When I set it up for my daughter I put a 383 small block Chevy into it.

The Ford will be something new and I might have to change one upright and a diagonal to gain starter clearance. This was done on the left side to clear the Dodge starter so it will be just a matter of copying that modification on the right side to clear the Ford starter. The midplate will perform double duty as it adapts to the powerglide transmission and will allow the use of a Chevy converter. Also have to change gears as the Ford won't rev high enough to use the 4.56 gears that are in the car now.

When I ran it ...

It’s sitting on a stand in my garage Doc. Needs to come apart and be cleaned up and it would be good to go. Some of my “friends” wanted me to put it into The altered but I figured I would need go cart nerf bars around the wheels so I could do bank shots off the guard rails if I did that.

That all sounds familiar now. I was probably one of those persons prodding you to bolt it into your altered! :p

My neighbour had an old bent and dented aluminum spare tire cover in his scrap metal pile. “Take it if you want it” he said. Some hammer and dolly work, a few minutes with the table saw and a few more with an angle grinder and sanding disc and I discovered an uncanny resemblance to front fenders for the bug project. Gotta admit I’m a big fan of free!

Finally got back to do a little more work on the bug project. Got the body mounts made and welded in and then started on the firewall. I think it turned out ok considering my lack of experience or expertise at sheet metal and body work. Bondo will be my friend!

Next up ... build the box and then the floor. Still have to make rocker panels as well but currently have no idea just how I'll do that. Figure it out when I get there I guess.

Just read this whole thread. It's a treat to see something outside the usual Ford bodies. Thanks for taking us along here SC.

You are doing very fine fabricating my son. I see you have put that new bead roller drive to good use. Gonna be a fun little hot rod.
