The guy that I am doing the 38 Chevy for, drop the parts off today and told me about a show tomorrow. So I loaded the trailer and I'm hoping I can get in under construction, If not I will have my own show in the parking lot.

So with trailer in tow I pulled up to the gate. A young kid asks me what am I doing; I replied I’m here for the car show and to show off some of my work. He proceeded to inform me he can’t let me in. After a couple minutes of talking to him and trying to get him to let me in one of the other guys running the show walks up to the truck. He came up to the window and asks me “You know this is not a swap meet don’t you” I replied back with “Do you see for sale on anything back there”. I told him I was just like anyone here and just wanted to show my work. Well I got in, I might have been sent to the loneliest corner but I had a lot of company.

I gotta hand it to ya Mike. Not many people bring just truck cabs to a car show. Did you get any bites?

I did have a couple dozen people ask if the 38 Chevy was for sale, but it belonged the the guy with the orange Biscayne that was at the show. He had a lot of guys wanting that cab but I don't think he struck any deals.

I can say without a doubt not one person said the word "hack". I did receive a lot of thumbs up on the work and was asked if I had some cards. I will be looking at some OPP soon so we will see.

About 25 years ago I ran into sort of the same deal. My 27 was a roller but not running yet and there was an annual carshow I wanted to take it to so people could see it under construction. They had a class for "unfinished cars" so I figured that was where mine belonged.

When I got to the gate with the car on the trailer I met with some resistance because they wanted me to leave the trailer outside while unloading, which meant I would have to push the car a long ways inside. They finally begrudgingly let me take the trailer inside to unload and then I moved it to the parking area when I was done.

I got a lot of people climbing under and over the car and lots of them took the time to look through the picture album I had laid on the seat. But the judges didn't see the humor in me bringing a half done car and I lost out to a very rough 48 Ford that was painted with spray cans of primer. :D But it was nice to get it out into the sunshine after so many years of building it in my garage.

nice

cool mike, good thinkin' to get people interested in what you are doing:D

l took my street legal dwarf car when it was not running to a 3 day show that stated it had a under construction class, the show was 150 miles from home so l towed the car there. l pre-paid months earlier and when l got there they proceeded to tell me the cars had to run. we had the entry form and showed them that no where in any of the paper work that was given to me stated the car had to run. after a long debate l was allowed to park at the end of the vender line with there none running cars they brought to show there wares. next year when l got my entry form the show producers added a line stating the project/construction class has to run and drive. at least l had some influence on the shows from my adventure.

Later
