A few years back when I was running the shop in a gas station, it seemed like a revolving door of incompetent help. One day a hungry, eager 19 year old who had just got married, came in and hired on. He turned out to be one of a handful of my lifelong friends. He went on to be a top tech at a Toyota dealership. Putting up with all those lackeys was worth it just to have had the experience of mentoring him.

I seem to lose quite a few prospective employees when the question of "do you have a prison record?" Comes up. I have to take them into peoples homes and I can't do that when they answer yes! Funny how a couple of them were proud of their yes answer.

I won't claim to know the cause of it (although I have several views on it that I won't get into lest I create a small novel in a post) but it seems more aparent these days that an abundance of the members of the younger generations are confident they don't need to feel 'responsible' or will not suffer 'consequences for their actions'. The attitude of not only being physically lazy but mentally lazy as well is rampant now.
Again, I'll refrain from making a long dissertation but just wanted to add to all the above mentioned cause and effects.

The newest generation to enter the work force was fed a bunch of 'everyone's a winner', 'life should be fair', and everyone gets a feel good happy job. Reality punch! Life is not Candyland, and it's real hard when your not prepared.

Every year there are a couple INS raids on companies around here. At least they wanted to work. Illegal immigration is, well illegal, but maybe we could work out a trade?
