Just a quick side note: Welding on galvanized material puts off a poisonous gas that will make you sick or kill you. You can get by, if you weld in a very well ventilated area, and avoid the fumes. If you get sick, use milk to make you feel better. I know of some welders who have gotten so sick from it that they can't even get close to it now without getting sick to their stomachs. Be careful out there.

Ditto, never got physically ill but had some nasty sweet sensation in my lungs a few times, won't touch the stuff anymore myself.

I would like to apologize to the site, I just thought I'd share with the rat world, I did'nt want to start a war.
By all means if you don't think it's safe, don't do it.
As with most things if you know what your doing and think safety you'll most likley be fine.

Agian, sorry for the all the trouble

Personally I think it led to a very good discussion!! I wouldn't appologize!!
This may actually save someone some grief, or worse!!
As for me I will continue to weld Galv. metels, but will do it in a safer manner!!

i think all is ok... if you took offence soltz, just go back and see how no one attacked you personally, but were commenting on the dangers of what "might happen" we arent an evil bunch here in RRR land, but will surely speak up if we are seeing something where we are concerned for your safety or the safety of others...that being said...

rat on, man.... rat on!

I like the idea of building with cool parts that were made from something else. Mainly, I just wanted to point out to those who don't know about zinc, what dangers there are. I would hate to see a newby read this and go out in the garage with his kids and build a set of zoomies, and make everyone sick.

On the otherhand, I don't want to rob the artistic freedom from anyone either.

This site is about information, and this was an informative thread . Carry on!

so what you are all saying is, if i weld galv i will get achy, shacky, sick and can't breathe. i am old. this is different from every day how exactly.:):)
