I have had this idea knawing at me every since I first saw this thing. It appears to be about a 55 or 56 and the cowl, doors ect. seem to be the same as the regular L series pickups of that vintage. I am thinking this cab with the front clip and bed from a regular pickup would make a way cool extended cab pickup.

I can get the whole thing for $400, probably haul the rest across the scale and get my money back, except I don't have a way to haul it.

thats so dam ugly i like it.. are those air shutters on the front? and yeow,
What engine is in it? whats the gvw? whats keep n ya frome haul n it?

frame?

drag it home and thow a full size extended chevy/dodge/ford chassis under it with a step side or short wide box. break it apart where the body meets the fenders and a 1948 to 1956 diamond T nose. IH and DT used the same cab thru those years. my friend has a DT and the cab was rotten and we used a IH cab and DT nose. everything bolts right up.

a little lowering or airbags and one of most oringal and coolest trucks on the road.

Later:cool:

I would only use the basic cab, not the nose or the rest of the truck. I don't have a way to haul it so I would have to hire it hauled but it's only about 20 miles so it shouldn't be too bad. It has some sort of 50s vintage Cummins in it right now.
Also not in the picture but it has a window in the kick panel on the passenger side.
I'd have to do some measuring but I am thinking a mid 90s Dodge dually chassis with a 12 valve and a 5 speed, 6 if I can find one cheap. Or maybe keep it all binder and run a DT466.

The shutters were used to control engine temperature since those early diesels didn't have a water thermostat.... there was a temp sending unit that activated an air-operated plunger that opened and closed the shutters. It was called, remarkably, a shutter-stat!

If the truck has a Cummins 'iron lung' engine it has some value to collectors. The Iron Lung got the name from it's side-mounted, gear-driven supercharger. The supercharger would howl like a banshee at 2100 RPM's and you could hear those trucks for miles on a quiet night.

If it's intact save it...

Dude that would be sweet!

See if someone will haul it and you take wat you want and let them get scrap price for the rest as part payment??? RR

COE

None of my business but, Man, that IS a COE. They are hard to come by. Somebody might think it's not so ugly. Just my opinion.....you could probably get more than you paid. But, you should build what ya want.

I am going to start looking for a mid 50s L series pickup. I think it would be cool to just use the cab and make something that looks like a factory made extended cab pickup.
I had posted it on the AHTS site and had a couple truck collectors drooling about it but when the dust settled it was like "oh, I didn't realize it was so far away".

cab only

Hey
If all you want is the cab then pay for the truck and remove the cab (about 10 of your buddies to help) and trailer the cab home. I bought a 34 Ford flatbed truck and just had the cab hauled to me. I'm sure some one will haul the rest for junk free.

have fun
Tom

I posted pictures of it there and had inquires about buying it. The owner gave me a price but I did not complete a transaction with him yet.
I have been wanting an older pickup every since I sold my 69 Ford crewcab. I would really like a 57 Ford but the idea of the extra room is tempting. The more I think about this binder, the more I like the idea of using the extended cab.
I can't sell what isn't mine but I could make the 20 minute drive and lay the cash in his hand any time. PM me if you are serious.
