So i was working on my flat head... and it seems i have a crak there is moisture in the oil... so i picked up this 292 and 2 speed trans for cheap guy took it out of his 58 ford car and went for a FE. I was wondering if the 4 speed in my truck would hook up to this 292... and where could i get motor mounts?

Most Likely you will need an adapter to mate the Y block to the older Ford trans.
Look on e-bay as they pop up there.
Motor mounts will have to be Fab'd unless you an find an old Hurst saddle mount that works for your engine and will use the flathead frame mounts.

Did you change the oil before you started working on the flatty? If not I'd bet moisture got in the from sitting for 32 years. I would change all the fluid and oil filter and run it for awhile then check again for water in the oil.

Agreed. But of course I am partial to flatheads.:)
Flatheads had a history of cracking but they also have a history of being run and driven well past their life expectency so don't give up on the old girl yet.

I swapped the 261 inline6 out of my 58 f350 and installed a 292 from an f100
The f100 had a 3 on the tree and the register in the bellhousing was smaller on the f100 292 bell than the register in the 261. i had a big granny low truck 4 speed with a pto and parkign brake. I had to keep it for the pto so down at hansens (many years ago) they let me dig through a pickup box full of old bellhousings. I got one probably from one of those 2-5 ton trucks that might have had a MEL engine in it. that's what was mostly in the pile big bells for old trucks with double clutches.
it's possible.. im not saying it's 100% but it's possible that a 390 or MEL cast iron bell will bolt to the 292

The 261 inline ford as like the 235 chevy or a cummins at the back
those round pattern bells are what they call an sae bellhousing. they had some similarities across the brands.
all I can say is try some out.
maybe you can find someone with one for sale and talk them into taking some paper and making and mailing you a rubbing of the pattern.

Any ford 4 speed from a 1970 at least or newer truck should bolt right up to any car bellhousing. im not 100% but im pretty sure ford standardized to the car's tranny pattern
 
Heres the 351 Windsor I'm going to put in my truck, the 351 modified in the back is forsale if anyone is interested it needs rebuilt but i thought I'd post a pic if anyone wants it. it runs but it knocks

[;) MAKEING PROGRESS [cl Got a new donor. One of my old trucks i sold to my cousin he got a different truck and gave me the truck i sold him back. Stout 302 auto. just pulled the front clip and the bed off the 51 F3. and now I'm going to pull the 81 around to our garage and start yanking. :D

Finally got my FE 352 Now i need to find an automatic. does anyone know of a good place to get a wiring harness for this 352? should have this engine sat in the 51 F3 in a couple weeks. story on this engine i bought a 79 Ford f150 body on a 76 Hiboy frame with an older 352 in it. well my dog got ahold of the title and i couldn't find the original owner of the high boy to get a new title. so why not use the parts from this truck for my 51. I'm using the rear end and some other stuff from it...

Here in Missouri, the good folks at the DMV will give you the name of the previous owner but, not their address :confused:
Wiring for that engine only consists of
1. Wire from the Ing pole on the ignition switch to the positive side of the coil.
2. Wire from the oil pressure sender to a light or gauge
3. Wire from the water temp sender to a light or gauge
4. A fender mounted solenoid with a wire from the S pole on the ignition switch to the S pole on the solenoid.
5. Hook a battery cable from the battery to one side of the solenoid, a battery cable from the other side of the solenoid to the cable pole on the starter :)
If you're using the 79 as a donor, it'll have everything you need.

The wiring sounds really simple lol. and the funny thing is I found the owner of it. on facebook asked him if he could get me the title. he said he would i asked a week later told him id pay for it and he said buzz off and blocked me...
 
How hard would it be?

how hard would it be to use the 4 speed out of the donor truck? it was a 4x4 but the its a divorced transfer case. could i use the transmission and just not the transfer case. if so would i need to use the pedal assembly from the 79 ford?
