Well... actually, we never quite got the release mechanism down well enough to not have an occasional backwards misfire. We did manage to 'release' a small fish back into the river with it though...

If I may digress...

My original goal was to eventually build one big enough to throw a 12oz beer to my neighbors house a block away. After making one with about a 10ft beam, I realized smaller ammo doesn't fly as far. To overcome terminal velocity wind resistance, either a very high initial speed or more mass is needed. SO, I think the next one I build, the goal will be to send a push mower 100yards.

Well, the one I built used two garage door springs. I had 2 more to springs to add on, but wasn't comfortable with the safety of the cocking mechanism.
