Glad it was on my drill and not the angle grinder.

I've had that happen before! Wakes you up real quick!

When I was younger, I was building a log house. In order to do so, I would straddle the walls above the doors and windows and drill 3/4" holes in order to set 2' pieces of rebar to lock the top log across the openings. We used a 1 hp "hole hog" drill that had TONS or torque. When you let off the trigger, it would take about 20 seconds for the drill to fully wind down.
The drill bit we used was a self tapping Auger bit.
One time....... And ONLY one time, I pulled the drill out and set it on my lap. In doing so, The self taping tip grabbed a hold of my jeans. My hand was off the trigger but just the power of winding down quickly wrapped up my jeans in a very similar knot as the photo above. It created a turnikate beyond believe!
I ruined a pair of jeans, and had a beautifully colored bruise about 3" wide all the way around my thigh.

It was a tough lesson to learn.

Remember safety. Sometimes a hard lesson learned is a lesson that cant be learned again.....after loosing a limb or an eye.

I've had the drillpress grab my glove and wrap my arm around the chuck. I thought I broke my wrist but it was just sore for a while.

Anything that spins can hurt you real quick.

ouch..I did that once with my big Milwaukee grinder and a 5" cup wirewheel..Had an old flannel shirt on at the time..that thing knotted up,slapped me in the chest friggin hard and ripped my shirt down the back and pulled it around..I'm standin there for a second wonderin what the hell just happended..shirt is still on just by the sleeves and I'm holdin this big wadded up mess of flannel..had about a 6" bruise where that thing hit me right at the bottom of my ribs..

Haha!! That's a hilarious image! Sucks about the bruise of course but...hahaha.

I hate wire wheels. The only one I use is a small one in the drill press. I also know a couple different guys who got fairly serious injurys from getting an angle grinder tangled up in loose cloths. A good friends brother ended up with one cutting the tendons in his wrist, dam cheapo Makita with a slide switch and he couldn't turn it off. I own nothing but paddle switch grinders.

I never thought of Makita as 'cheapo' - maybe their metal tools are? I have a contractor saw and compound miter saw from them - amazing accuracy and power for the price.

I always keep the guard on my angle grinders. Never use a cup on them either. Even with the guard on I stuck a wire a 1/2" into my leg. Only reason I got wrapped up was I was freehanding it with my drill. Even then, it happened fast. If that woulda been a grinder, I'd need a new face!
