I have always loved gassers and fuel altereds (AA/FA).
And everytime I see Gastrick's "survived & won the gasser wars" tag line, I am reminded of some great memories over the years.
I have been lucky enough to meet and have a few beers with Doug "Cookie" Cook (Stone, Woods, and Cook) as I worked with his son Mike for awhile.
And my favorite drag car of all time is the Winged Express.
I ran into Al "Mousie" Marcellus at a John Force open house and talked with him for awhile. Mentioned this "event" to a good friend, Bruce Kelley, and he says, "heck, I know Mousie". Turns out Al only lives about 6 miles from me and the next thing I know I am in Al's house.
Bruce introduces us and hangs around for about 1/2 hour, then leaves.
Got to spend the rest of the afternoon BS'n with Al over lunch and just talking old times. Great memory.
Unfortunately, it turned out to be the last time I saw Bruce, as he passed away a couple of weeks later.

Anyway, here are some pictures of some gassers that I hope you all will enjoy. '22

Sweet Ute!

It's not that straight though. It's a beater.

Gastrick,
Looks pretty straight to me & I love Ute's. Hadn't seen this, thanks for the post! Looks like you switched the steering column over to our side drive!

Gastrick, post away...
Yes, I have seen your Anglia Ute gasser, which is why I included the panel Anglia in the pictures.
As for yours being a "beater", I thought it was a very impressive piece of work.
You are being a little modest here I think....;)

Here is the only other photo I have of the car, Flat.
I'll include a few Crosley photos, just because I like them.
Two of a nice altered, and a stocker for comparison. '22

That little "Orange Bullet" is almost too smooth for words.

I would love to see more pics of that.

That's the Speed Sport Special. That's quite a famous car. The engine is in the rear and it's a hemi.

Here's the car being built in 1955.....

In the winners circle 1957..........

The owner/driver of this car was Paul Day out of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a friend of my dads and my dad helped him with this A/G 33 Willys. Prior to this car, Paul Day ran a 40 Willys pick-up (also pictured) which he crashed and replaced with the 33. We used to have what was left of the pick-up in our back yard when I was a kid. This was in the late 60's/early 70's. That's Paul Days wife in the photo.

Just some useless info. The Crosleys were forced to run in the altered classes due to their short wheelbase. For much of the Gasser era, NHRA had a minimum wheelbase requirement of 94" inches I believe(feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken on the number). This also counted out the 90" inch Anglias, but due to their popularity, The rule was relaxed and Anglia's were alowed to compete but with limited cubic inch engines and aspiration restrictions. Later the rule was relaxed resulting in an influx of Anglias in the open gas classes.
