got an offer to work at a local tank building company
thats been around since way before i was born..
the big storage tanks not artillery
quite a bit more $ and benefits for me and the whole fam
- and probably a company vehicle..
and at least for now it sounds like id just be workin in the shop so
no travel and no nights - its a great opportunity but we had
been planning on moving just to get away and into a new place
with new opportunities
now -- were not so sure [S

Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Congratulations! My wife lost her job 6 months ago. Now that she has been off, she likes it and isn't looking for work. No more cars for me.....(sigh)

well - took the job - can start whenever i want to -
basically in charge of the entire shop - sounds like a lot but
its really not - the guy who does it now has been there too long
to let go and refuses retire but is too old to actually get all the stuff
done there that needs to be done ..

be taking about a 5k a year base pay increase (without any overtime or travel pay) + full benefits for the wife and kiddos (probably the main seller of the job)
and probably a company truck in the next few months (definate bonus but id be happy with fuel reimbursement)
working 730-4 m-f
all weekends and holidays off
- its not a large company but
has its name and reputation and has a lot of large contracts all the time
so theres a lot of opportunity to make a lot more money in very little time
ive only ever heard very good things about the owner as far as taking care of his employees - like abnormally large bonuses, putting down payments on their houses for them, etc..

It sounds like you have landed a good job from a good employer. Congrats on that. I haven't had a weekends/holidays/nights off job for about 25 years.

my wife cleans 2 houses a week and gives piano lessons and thats the money she uses for her random stuff like candles (she spends a lot on candles) --- maybe you can talk her into some kind of gig like that.

Congrats on the job, hope it all works out ok. Watch out for those old geezers who have been there forever...they typically don't cotton to newcomers and changes very well!

I'm also the lone bread winner in the family. My wife's latest get out of debt scheme is to be a surrogate mother. It's a good cause-helping people have kids who for some reason can't. They won't be using her eggs or anything so the kid will totally be theirs (after it's born anyway). She's does great being pregnant, so why not? The payout will be enough to clear all our debt, except the mortgage. The really great part is she will still be at home to take care of our high maintenance little 'uns. We're also in the process of adopting a baby, so part of the surrogacy $ will offset the adoption $.

Congratulations sounds like its one of those jobs most people wish for. There is alot to be said for being able to be home every night in your own bed, not working weekends and night shifts, especially when there are kids at home. Hope everything works out for you!

I see no downside to your new job, sounds very good. In todays economy ANY job is good, but one where they still pay medical and bonuses is just icing on the cake.

Have fun. :D:D

thank you everyone - pretty excited -
and your wife is an amazing and noble woman... surrogate mothers deserve
much more appreciation than i think they receive .. think about it - your wife is giving the most precious gift to a couple so that they can be a family.
super stoked youre adopting also - for what its worth - very proud of ya both... youre good people.

started work at the new job yesterday and so far soo good ... lots of heavy duty metal work involved but super layed back - i think i was one of 2 persons in the shop for most of the day - there were 3 a couple times - and it is a LARGE shop -- also was told i can use the equiptment if i ever needed to --
which was cool --

cameron - our 5 yr old girl - is all registered for kindergarten as of yesterday as well -- felt so old ---

city auction on sat. im gonna try and make - maybe pick up some pos truck or maybe even a car to zoom back and forth to work in - maybe see if the boss man at work wants to go as well -- apparently he loves to go to auctions [cl

I've always liked starting a new job, like a new adventure or something. Sounds like you are going to enjoy working at this place. Good luck. :)
