I just heard something that has me itching just thinking about it. Bed bugs are becoming a HUGE problem, and come on more things than just matresses, they can come on furniture like dressers, night stands, desks, etc.

My Son is in the property management field and was telling me a lady in one apartment likes to buy stuff at garage sales. She brought home some bed bugs and came into the office all bit up. She has been trying all kinds of treatments, but the little buggers are resistant to normal pesticides and it takes a lengthy treatment that costs about $ 1200 to get rid of them.

Just passing this along because I know lots of us like to dumpster dive and hit garage sales. Man, I really am itching just from the thought !!!!!

Yea, those little vampires are hard to kill
I watched a documentary on the method of getting rid of them. The house/apartment has to be sealed and heated to 120 or 150 deg for a while cause they can't take hi temps [P
That's why there's so many mattresses left by the road side in the big cities.

Im the restoration contracting industry and see those things everywhere!
Our techs who go in and do smoke, water, mold and asbestos abatement get them more often then not. Our company trucks can be found sitting in the back lot with a heater, heating the trucks up to 140 for 8 hours to kill the little buggers.
They wear tyvek suites most of the time so their cloths don't usually get exposed, but if they do, they end up in the trash.
Washing machines wont get them out unless it has a sanitize function with a additional water heater to heat the water above what a standard home water heater will go.

I found ONE in an cooperate apartment in Texas that i was staying in for a while and packed up all my stuff and left an hour later. Those things can chew you up pretty bad if you let them.

bugs

my buddy lives a few houses away, he trvels for work wkly and brought them home from a Holiday Inn. cost him 2300.00 bucks to get rid of them. he left a few things in his garage for some reason and a few months later after a very cold winter and ther were a few still alive, they did not freeze. WTH:eek:

A friends parents got them on a mattress at their country house & tried everything to get rid of them to no avail. Finally had to burn it!

From what I understand no pesticides really work except for what a professional uses. I don't know where this epidemic came from, when did we ever hear about them before ? I remember the old "Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite" , did anyone except the dirtiest homes ever have them ?

Hmmm... My mother used to say that. I always thought it was a throwback to the depression and the "dirty 30's" for us prairie folk. [S
