Guys, :( i have a hoarding problem. see, i found this. 1952 Plymouth Coupe 2dr that runs and drives just needs new tires for $1500.00 well i got a very Sellable 81 F150 that runs good. i want this car badly but my parents dont want me getting rid of the Truck. and it sucks cause if i got rid of the truck my dad wont insure anything else... what do i do? because it would just look so beautiful to have my 49 Deluxe and this 51 Plymouth next to each other. and the Plymouth runs good the guy says...

Yup. If you are living under their roof and putting your feet under their table, then I'd say they get to interject some common sense into your decisions. If their parenting job is done and you know better than them, then it's time to move out on your own, pay your own rent, insurance and all that pesky stuff.

Well, this may sound harsh, but stop whining and start paying your own bills, until that happens, you abide by the rules of the people paying your bills and housing you...

Good luck.

More of what ya don't want to hear.

Be grateful that your dad is paying for anything. I never got any help like that and always bought my own stuff. I had my first full time job at 14 and lived on my own by 16 and still graduated high school.

Best of luck!
Eric

Hello North bend
I used to stop into the Casey’s for a smile from the pretty ladies and pizza when I was driving back and forth between Omaha and Columbus.
There's one hot old mama there I really like but I think she has a man
If you want to friend up I'm in Omaha
My names Michael Ederer and my company is ECI Ederer's Contracting Inc. we're on facebook
I don't have any work to hire i'm looking for a job myself lol.
Nebraska passed a law requiring contractors to get licenses so right now I can't pull permits anymore until I get a contractor's license
Old trucks around here are pretty cheap. a dime a dozen and laying around all over the place.
I'm driving a 2000 f150 with 184,000 miles on it and the 4.6 gets around 20 mpg on the highway

Cars that old that aren't butchered and are solid are pretty rare.

I went to Tulsa and dragged home a 76 f250 supercab with a tired motor I'm going to turn into a 4x4.
My other running truck is an 86 chevy dually with a 350. th400 and 3.22 gears
It got 10mpg with the 4:11's it get's 12 with the 3.22's but now my towing mpg is down to 6mpg from 8.
I'm putting a Pontiac 400 in for more torque. it will do as good or better than the 350 chevy.
I had a diesel in it that got 18 mpg I might just swap a 6.2 back in but this 350 is built and this truck really gets up and goes and I know i'd like the power of the 400
But practically... unless were all going to be making over 50k a year... gas is too expensive
Right now my 350 at 12mpg is maybe less than 10% more expensive than the diesel was
Except for towing. The diesel also got 18 towing. 18 vs 6... long trip... money talks.

As a 45 year old guy who (excuse me) incidentally doesn't have any kids of his own
I would have to say judging my from experiences with MY father regarding old cars when I was under his roof.
My dad likes old cars. My first was a$500 55 chevy pickup
It wasn't an issue that I liked old stuff, he just didn't like seeing me dumping everything into them.
So if you want the car your going to have to come up with a pitch your dad is going to consider.

It's most likely he sees the car as a money pit and the pickup as a reliable money maker.
You will probably do well deciding to get rid of your other project to have this one by selling it or giving it to your dad to build before he'd be comfortable with you getting.
it.

most likely it isn't something related to the car you want that is the reason your father is against you getting it. expand your perception slow down listen to him and find out WHY he's against it.
"You never let me do anything" kinda talk doesn't get you anywhere XD

oh my dad loves old cars... hes the 1 who helped me. hes just using good logic. lol i got my 49 Chevy Deluxe to fix up. and i got a Extremely good running and driving 81 Ford. i want the old plymouth cause it runs and i could take it to car shows while i fix up the Deluxe. anyway did you work in Columbus? thats where im originally from. but like he is saying... keep the good running truck and fix up the car... lol im just a hoarder. i want them all. lol

Well. in your defense (sort of) you don't have to be a kid to loose sight of the costs of ownership. I have 4 licensed vehicles and there is always at least one of the three daily drivers in need and the hotord can suck time and money out of me any time I let it. I just got done doing brakes, shocks and CV shafts on my Aerostar. The powerstroke got $1000 worth of tires a while back, is past due for a service and now the water pump is leaving little puddles. And my F250 needs a bunch of attention but I hardly ever use it so it will stay in need. All it does is haul fire wood now. Even if the $1500 sounds like a bargain, I can guarantee it would start sucking up money and time if you wanted to drive it much. Might be a good time to ditch the 4 door and replace it with a coupe.

Buy the darn thing.....

....put pl pd insurance on it and drive it...not sure where the problem is.....as long as my kids paid for their own stuff, I didn't care what they got....if they don't have room, store it at a buddies house...Don't know why Dad or Mom would care how many vehicles on the policy since you get multi car discounts the more vehicles you get....LOL...so win win for them....and you....if you can swing it money wise.....:D

I was hauling steel plate from the windmill place in columbus to a railyard in Omaha.

OK....didn't read that into the post....

I think pops might be more concerned that he wants to ditch his dependable daily driver to buy another project car when he already has one. I'm with pops.

Yeah....don't dump the pkup....keep it and the other too....can't have too many vee-- hicles....:D Even at 18....lol

[ddd at 18 having a 4 door is nice... especially when i have that special girl with me... lol back seat is more roomy in a 4 door [cl [dr LOL
Be smart when you're in the rain always wear a rain coat ;)
