Been shoping for another Harley on craigslist. First question I ask is "Do you have a clear title?

Don't believe that one. I have a harley in the shop right now were the guy said his mother had the title at her house. So I held $500 and guess what 5 years later I still don't have the title. Make sure any Harley has a clear NUMBER matching title.
Just thought I would post this to help you and any others buying a harly

If you're still looking, I have a nice Harley for trade...I bought it new cash, and I do have a clean clear Ct title for it. Also have plenty of nice photos, never wrecked. And my info is no BS! Anyone else interested contact info is included.

Drove 2 hours to San Antonio to look at a '56 Buick 2-door years ago. The guy (obviously old) had it for many years. Described it as needing new paint, but otherwise nice, the interior was "like new" and ran great.

So I take a 1/2 day off, drive down there and show up when I'm supposed to. Guy is not even home. No matter, the jalopy was sitting under the carport. The outside was covered in rust spots that he had "repaired" by taking a grinder and 36-grit sanding wheel to and spray-bombing. Nice puddle of various fluids underneath and the body had a good 3 inch list to one side.

The interior was worse than most junk cars. Every piece of plastic was cracked and crumbled off down to the steel (like the steering wheel), every piece of pot metal pitted amost to dust. All chrome rusty inside & out.

The thing was maybe good for parts, but I couldn't see a single one worth pulling off. $6000 firm! I was furious.

Most of what we know, we learn from experience. I learned a long time ago that every person has different values and means of judging. I have made 4 hour trips just to find that "cherry" something was obviously flawed or total junk. Then there is the old problem we all face, we see things like we want to see them, and cheap price often impairs good common sense.
I always ask all the questions I can think of, especially if there is a gap in the information provided in the ad. It isn't so much what they are telling you but what they aren't telling you.
