The infamous "neutral drop".

Having spent some time at "our" racetrack, I've been a start line official several times. In that role, you watch for any and all possible issues, paying special attention to "street car" rookies who may attempt the strictly forbidden neutral drop!

.
I tried it once in my 60 Valiant. Only cost me a front pump. Fortunately, it was in my front yard, and not anywhere where others could witness my learning experience. I was 18 experimenting with my first car. It did bark the tires momentarily.

ok from 'Crates strange but true file ...

driving my '68 Aussie made Holden .. 3 on the tree,, pulled out from an intersection changing from 1st to 2nd ,,, just happily cruising,, gently slid the clutch out only to find the car very suddenly stopping..
nope no feet on the brake pedal..

the old gearbox was so knackered and growly it just let me dump it into reverse ..

to this day i cannot fathom how ...

after that it still drove fine - no worse for that.. and still could smoke those back tires...

Good story, crate! [cl

Furthermore, I appreciate your electrical expertise. Next time I need a circuit pinched, I'll have my wife do it. [ddd

I did my '53 Chevy that way but, It didn't last but two weeks. Ended up changing it to a three on the tree.

the torqueflite trans will do that explosive mess when the rear sprag would lose control of the rear drum causing the forward drum to accelerate to 3 times the engine rpm, and explode at about 15,000 rpm.

rather try my luck with a naked flame.....
