Here's a little experiment that shows how much life you have lived, where your at, and how much lifetime is left.

First, decide how long the 'natural average age' of your family members would be.
Males, go by age lived of deceased Father, Grandfather, Uncles etc.
Females, go by Mother, Grandmother, Aunts etc.

Now take a tape measure, run it out to your average age and lock it at that spot. (If your average age is, say 77, lock it at 77 inches)

Now set a marker at your present age. (Use a pen, pencil, bolt, coffee cup what ever is handy.)

Now step back and take it all in.........it can be a bit of an eye opener!!

Young guys.....pffft, I've got lots of time.:)
Old guys.........Holy Crap!!

Amen to taking 10 years off for being in the fire service. i have been to too many funerals this year for retired service brothers that didnt get the time to live their retirements.

*Throws tape measure........

Yep, I don't want to know. :D I figure you just have to live every day like it is your last one and let the cards fall where they fall. I had a heart attack at 42 (23 years ago) and because 50% of the people who have a heart attack don't survive, I have been given a gift. :D

this is the first time my dyslexia has helped me I'm getting younger by the inch

Better switch that tape end for end before your not born yet.[ddev

I know when I tried it, I thought, where did all the time go? And after seeing what was left, Whoa! better get my priorities straight.;)

so what does it mean when you pull the tape out and it is broken at say 27.5".......... I might be in trouble already!;)

Yep.....Im at the holy crap stage.....I realized more last year when I was the same age that my dad died........Over that hump. My mom lived to 85, so I guess I am in between there somewhere........

All of my aunts and uncles lived up into their mid 90's (except for a couple that died from cancer). My mom will be 89 this year. My dad lived to be 84. I'll live however long i live.

Thanks for that! I try to take it one day at a time but it is easy to think you have all the time in the world. Life is precious. We all would do well to let the people we know that they matter to us. At least the ones that do.

Ya know, we Americans have really become distanced from death. 100 years ago, and even now in many places around the globe, death was/is a frequently seen event. Far as I'm concerned, I'm already into the bonus rounds - and I'm only 42.

I saw the sun rise. It's a good day.
