Well my friends, it's a sad day around here. I have been slowly working on a 67 Camaro for a while now. I was going to sand blast it myself but found a place that would do the whole shooting match for a few bucks. Well, when I picked it up it needs a whole lot more work than I wanted to do. Did I mention it needs a lot of work? I have had a few quotes & the lowest for a proper restoration was $15,000.00  That's just to get it paint ready.
Unfortunately I am not a body man by any stretch. I would need some help with this one. So I'm thinking I'll try & broom it in it's current condition.
I have it on racingjunk.com for sale & willing to trade - for just about anything.
A little disappointed and not feeling like doing too much in the garage lately.

//end whining

I'm sure you'll find something to replace it.....it is a bummer.....always a drag when you are into something and things go in the wrong direction.....

Those late models can break your heart when you get them down to bare metal and see what ya got.

Time for a beer and a hairy burnout. Therapy, I call it. :D

I feel your pain. A few years back, I sold a car I owned since high school for the same reason. It needed more time and money than I could justify. A guy who bothered me for years bought it and assured me he would restore the car. As I watched it roll away, something flew in my eye and disturbed the tear duct. :( I lost touch with the guy and have no idea what happened to the car but I really don't care anymore.

Like Sarge said, something else will come along to fill your need for speed. Initiate shopping mode. :D

Kick back and think about it for a while....sometimes a momentary lapse shines a new light on your projects....been there! Don't rush into selling it as you may have serious regrets later....cr

I want pictures. Rat rod '67 Camaro? Do all the chassis/drivetrain work, only fix the pans and wells on the body, leave the interior bare, lay paint to protect it, and run it as is. The idea is to bring it to the point where it is drivable, but still easy to pull apart to work the body.

With todays market and restoration costs, even with your own labor, you can still buy a dam nice 50s-60s car for half what it costs to restore one. Sadly, those first gen Cameros had their rust issues and so many were mudded up years ago that you just don't know what you have until you strip it, if it has ever been repainted. If it isn't a COPO, Z28 or a big block 4 speed car, it isn't hardly worth the trouble even if it isn't rusty.

Mav 15k is BS

I know the feeling, my javalin has been sitting for years while I track down glass. The lates quote I got was 5k.

Wish you were closer. I looked at your PB pics, and looked up panels. 2k goes a real long way for tin, full rear quarter 70 each, door skins 150 each, full rockers 120 each, front fenders 250 to 650 each, floor panels 90 each side.

they make everything you need for that just to spotweld together

Camaro rebuild.

You got any pics of this car. $15,000 to get ready for paint, who is your bodyman Chip Foose ? See what panels and body parts you need then click on NPD .com and check the prices. Putting $15,000 in that car would be about $7500 to much.

$15G just to get it ready to paint? BS! You could buy a new Dynacorn body for less than that! Somebody is pulling your leg! You need to find somebody else to talk to, that bunch is trying to put a royal screwing on you. Check out the Dynacorn bodies.

i was thinking the same thing, but haven't been to that site in a long time.

I thought about the Dynacorn option but have decided to cut my losses and move on. I really haven't lost a lot of money, I've lost time spent working on it & dreaming of what it could be - and a year + getting the title straightened out. It could be a lot worse. I'm lucky I have some disposable income to enjoy something like this. I need to be a little more humble and get my priorities straight here and stop whining.
Thanks for all the support fella's :p

Yeah that sucks dude..... bare metal usually shows you a lot of things you dont want to see..... but ya know as one door closes another opens and maybe this will allow you to find your dream car project.

I haven't skinned a late model but I don't think it's as easy as people would lead you to believe. I have seen a lot of that type of repair that needs completely redone because it wasn't done right (which requires experience).
Body work is hella expensive at good shops because most body shops make such good money on insurance work. If the shop is reputable in that type of work and are going to give you back a show quality product, the $15,000 may not be out of line.

WB3 makes a good point. There is alot more to it, I would do a full rear panel replacement over a 1/2 or 1/4. There is more work in a full panel but less can go wrong. I have lots of buddies that work auto body and yes insurance pay outs drive up prices.
